What kind of dope do you guys smoke to come up with this stuff! It is awesome!

  6. No dope smoking at my place, that's how I get shit done.

HvyMtl55......Go to a machine shop and have some made exactly like you need. It's a pretty simple job and shouldn't be too expensive.

Mittler Bros makes a 3/4 inch flat bead roll set. Meaning, it'll make a channel 3/4 inch wide. Not sure how deep - probably 1/8" or so. I don't have it - just saw it in their catalog. PN is 201-750-F. The Mittler Bros and Pro-Tools rolls both fit .750" shaft, so if your HF roller has 3/4" shafts, it should work fine.

  10. That is the coolest bead rolling i've ever seen i really like the Mr. horsepower on the door panel

One more thing I thought of while out walking the dog this evening... you'll also need to check the OD of your HF rolls. The Mittler and Pro-Tools are 2.5" OD. If I remember right, the HF rolls are not that big on the OD, and in that case, they won't work on your machine.

Here's one of my latest sets of door panels and dash for a VW Bug that a guy is doing gasser style. DIAMOND TUCK'd aluminum! These look so freakin' cool in person! I wish I'd done it sooner. The bead rolling in that pattern makes them curl up a bit, but they flatten out without a problem when riveted to the door.

  14. How about showing how to do it, I've always liked that style.

Yep, I can do that. Next set, I'll take photos along the way and do a write up.

If you want the diamond pattern to run all the way to the edge of the panels, you could do it with a brake. I like to leave a boarder around the edges, and the only way to do that is to bead roll each tuck individually, starting and stopping inside the boarder.

Kev, that Crow is way cool! Nice work.

Here's one of my latest. Picture's not the best, but the piece itself came out nice.

This is like a Friday art show for tinbeaters.

    Kevin that is way cool.
I like it unpainted but it would also look cool painted like the old raised signs.
Make him another one I guess!

You inspired me to do some mods to my HF el cheapo roller.

Added the steering wheel off a 1930's snow plow - about the only thing recoverable.

Also bolted the vise to a Chevy flywheel for some base weight.

Almost done with the trunk on the 55.

    Thanks for the ideas.

    Kevin,

Superb work. I am glad I have a bead roller now. Like others I need to spend time practicing to get past the straight line stiffening beads.

I have a HF roller like others on this thread but have found that it needs some re-inforcement as I have sen the top part of the 1/2" plate flex on some practice runs. My solution for now is to shorten the slot with a 1/2" bolt and couple of very flat large washers. I think the better solution is welding a piece of angle iron on the back. Any houghts or should I just back off on my roller depth setting?

    Thanks,

    N B R

  29. Other Hambers have posted how they beefed up their HF bead rollers. Maybe someone can post a link. Try the search function also.
