Group: I had an interesting last few days. My customer Mart Higenbothem (X funny car pilot) wanted to french his tail lights on his 54 Chevy. I made the tail light frames from 18 ga. sheet steel, forming the inside piece 1" deeper first . Then I made a wood buck the size of the tail lite frame less some metal thicknes. i shrunk the front edges and rolled the sides on the english wheel. then curved the ends and trimed to fit. Wekded it all up and sanded smooth. I think they are cool looking if I do say so. dwrfab Don Ross
Excellent work! I did mine similarly, although a little more radical. I like your's more Never did take any in process pics though.. Please show more pics of the car as you go. Again, very nice. Tony.
Very nice work, Don! It didn't take long for you to finish those up. I got your old '40 hosed off and it's sitting snugly in its new home back in the corner of my shop. It told me to tell you that it misses you. -Brian
Group: I just built the frames so Mart's body man can install them. I did make templets and a buck so I can make a couple more sets. the are hand made and wheeled and sanded. I don't know how they will blend in at the top so I told Mart to have his body man cut a curf at the top and tap the fender and frame down to blend. Mart took them straight over to his plater to see about chroming the inside. This my not work to good but his plater can tell him that. Don really did a fabulous job and it has made it so easy to french in the tail lights. All we have to do is cut out the existing flange on the car that holds the old tail light and tack on this new piece and it's done. The piece don made holds the lamp fixture and the lense and once back from the chrome plater will go on and then be painted. I'll take pictures and give them to don. The taillights and frenched in front lights from Hagen will both look the same( Kind of trying to make the car look like the Foose 54). Don louvered the hood and he has more tick under hood items still to do.
