Hello! Got a pair of wheels the other day, they are a pair of sloted alu.wheels 9"x15". They are stamped American Racing made in England? Anybody have the story on these When are they made? Br Kjell ................................. Taildragger&fenderless
Yep, Ive got a set of those, had them for years. 15"x8"s, they came off a late 80's Corvette. They have a flat center section and the dish is like an S shape in section, will take some photos and post. Looks like they are finally going to be put into service on my 52 Chev pickup.
Wolferace were the most common slotmags here in the '70s, but there were others like Cobra Supaslots. Maybe the AR ones were made under license - GKN was (is?) a big aluminium wheel manufacturer and I have a feeling they might have cast the Wolferace ones? Maybe the 'E' in A.R.E. really stands for England?
Yep, that's them. Mine came complete with a set of spun aluminum center caps, no logo on them. Like these I seem to remember something about Wolfrace on the rim too.
Wouldn't those be English Racing? HA HA. Notice the outermost corners of the slots are squared off, different then the three sets of slots I have.
From memory they were originally called Woolfrace slot mags then later renamed Wolfrace manufactured by a guy called Barry Tracey, they became so associated with modified cars/ custom cars as the uk called them here, that some major manufacturers started fitting them as std equipment with others copying them..... Nuff said.............. Eventually they went bust and the hot rod orientated owner started a new company called Carflow (wolfrace backwards) made a bundle and disappeared. Mind you he got the top rod uk rodbuilder of the time working with wolfrace to build this twin baby buick powered (side by side) computer synched car for promo purposes and at the time round the early years of cnc and billet 1985 ish it was a major hit on the uk. Peace 8bb Ps if Darth Vader had a ride, would it be this ???................
