Hey, Has anyone used a spot welder that they're happy with? What's for sale, on the market, that'a worth havin' in the shop? Years ago, when I use to make a livin' poundin' fenders, there were the small panel spotter types, they worked o.k., once the learning curve was past ya, but I was never crazy 'bout welding in a wheelhouse/frame rail, on a unibody front end with one. I've got a floor, rocker, cowl & tunnel rebuild project commin at me, and I really don't wanna spend any time repairing heat distortion in low crown panels. There's nothin' worse than spending hours building a floor or rockers, only to fuck 'um up welding them in, and plug weld s get really expensive when you are lookin' at 3-4 hundered of 'um. I've looked at the Chininese crap, and don't think I'd have one as a gift! And ideas? Swankey Devils C.C. Happy Xmas Happy whatever
i bought a miller one used off ebay with the timer and are very happy with it. it is 220 volts. only problem i have had is the tongs i got are not long enough.
we got a 70kv taylor 440volt 3 phase air cylinder clamping, fancy heat controls and we still get a lot of bad spot welds, we consdier this indsutrial machine only marginal.
The tongs are just carbon steel, no? Couldn't longer tongs be made from 1010 steel and the tips/points fitted to these for a deeper reach into the panel to be welded? Swankey Devils c.C.
