90% of PC problems stem from the down load of porn. A lot of porn contains viruses. Watch where you click that mouse.

I'd have to say the iPod doesn't have as much to do with the last year as the MacBook and iPhone and the Intel switch... now the iPod did help a lot in the last 6 years, yes it's been 6 years...

I just know that all of my graphics driven friends here on the hamb shake their head everytime I mention my pc problems. They kept trying to woo me over to the dark side. It worked. Now Jeffie can send me art in Mac format.

    I bought the 24" monitor.

Oh man are you in for a treat ..... That "Mighty Mouse" that your new iMac came with is multi function. Click on the left or right sides of the mouse and it recognises the pressure and treats it like separate buttons. The sides are also pressure sensitive and the button on top is multi functional. And the whole thing is programable to your taste and functions. Check out the instructions. I just bought the wireless "Mighty Mouse" at the Apple Store yesterday on sale for $58.00 and love it (bluetooth like my wireless apple keyboard). The only wire to my iMac is the power cord :D

P.S. Been on Macs since 85 and still have the functioning MacPlus.

I have a few Mac Plus computers, but they seem to die...not nearly as high quality as my (older) IBM stuff.

The Mac OS was years ahead of Windows back then, but unfortunately the hardware required to run it fast was way too expensive, and Apple was into full proprietary mode. IBM let everyone get in on the action, prices for clones fell drastically, and the rest is history...Microsoft is in control of most of the operating system market.

  9. I've only ever owned macs and have to ask my wife how to use her PC every time I get on it. I just find the macs so much easier and intuitive to use...from file storage to graphics.

yup....because IBM went to proprietary machines (PS/2) in the late 80s, but the rest of the industry stayed with the "old" IBM PC AT standard. IBM blew it.

I bought my first Mac in 1986, a Mac Plus with a 30 meg external hard drive, and have owned various models right up to the MacBook Pro I am typing this on; In that time, I have had only one problem requiring service, and that was in 1991 on the Mac Plus CRT tube. All of these were used in my studio to create illustration work and keep track of business, and all of them can still fire right up and function fine. I get out the old Mac Plus once in a while to show my college students what it used to be like...
On the other side, I had to buy PC's for my daughters to use at college and high schools starting in 2002, ( an HP desk unit and a Dell laptop) and I have replaced 3 hard drives, one monitor, and had to have both remediated professionally for viruses and spyware...

    love these Macs

Macs face the same hardware problems; my wife's macbook hard drive crashed and she lost everything. It was incredibly simple to put in a new drive. Cost-wise the Mac is no more expensive than a MS machine with similar performance. There are less viruses for Macs simply because hackers want to inflict the most impact - MS machines own 90% of the market. I like the Macs UI; far more intuitive than Vista, XP, etc.

I wonder why that is? huh....seems to me if Macs were the best, then they would be the ones setting the standard.

    This is really mind boggling.

surfing the internet (which is what the majority of us do with our hardware) is like taking your car for a drive, but imagine half the places you drive have someone trying to wreck your car somehow. The people are much better at wrecking PC's than Macs.

Just like you maintain your car, you have to maintain your PC or mac. I have both and tend to like my Mac more, but they both can work fine when I am diligent in my maintenance.

I used a Mac at school for a semester and it was different than a PC and I didn't like it. I think it was just because it was different. I wouldn't mind one for the graphics part, Microsoft paint doesn't work well all the time. :D What went wrong with the PC? I need some parts. :D :p

All Mac for me as well. Never any issues. Simple, easy, and a great layout.

  23. when you only have between 4-10% of the market most hackers would yawn at mac's. i have never owned a mac so until one comes along for the right price guess we can carry on with a pc. actually glad to hear your still up and running. hate to lose a hamber because of "brand loyalty":p :p

I use a PC for all the usual crap and internet. I did use a Mac for video and sound, when it comes to picture/sound/video editing NOTHING beats Mac, but for all else I rather PC.
Groucho the difference is a lot the same as Ford/Chevy/Mopar etc.
You like what you like, try both and see what works for you.

Ohh yea and MAC's never freeze up.... you just get the rainbow colored pinwheel of death!

I render hard core architectural images using Form-Z Radiozity and hands down, my toshiba laptop can run circles around the dual processor G-5's all day long...

the only thing good about a MAC is their designers and their marketing department... kinda like John Deere, there's nothing special about the product, but the marketting department makes it look like the best thing out there!

    Forget that!

Go get a copy of Ubuntu Workstation. That's the standard today. There's an offshoot Kubuntu which is good also (oriented to the KDE desktop environment).

I run VmWare on my PC, and it runs Ubuntu and Windows XP at the same time (to satisfy my Unix sweet tooth). Been a Unix man since 1979, so always have to have an emergency relief valve on my Windows :D
