I was at SEMA last week. I saw A streamliner powered by A 4Cul Hemi. My dirt t has a 4cyl chevII in it and would like to install a hemi . Can this eng be set up for rwd? What vechical do they come in? Thanks Terry
It would help if you knew the manufacturer. Could be Fiat,Alfa Romeo, any Japanese mfg. Might even be domestic.
Might find some info here: http://www.cameltoe.net/ I think both their new cars are chrysler powered.
I think I remember reading about a 4 cylinder hemi Dodge Colt that guys used to race back in the '70s. It was in a book I got in about 1972 called "Engines". They had chapters on all the popular hot rod engines of the time. Neat book if you ever find a copy.
Some of the early 80s K-cars (4 bangers) had a little hemi badge on them, whatever that meant in a K(rap) car.
I have 3 (gasp)Toyota 3TC HEMIs. Cool little motors, and was thinking of putting one in my T, but just could'nt bring myself to do it with a good running flathead sitting here. Bad part is it would be half the work to put a "LiL" hemi in it. Check out this old add.
It's a brand new crate motor sold by MoPar for use in midget racing. It was used in the Blow Fish and Ron Mains ex echofire streamliner. Belongs to George Poteet. Blew at Bonneville. It is not a production motor. See Rad Rods by Troy for Blow Fish pictures. Thing was very fast before it blew.
Mopar offers a variety of heads for the banger midget race motor, including the Hemi. It's quick. Lots of jap motors are hemis, Toyota being one of teh first since they got a license for the baby hemis from Mercedes Benz way back in the sixties. The very early '70's Corolas had banger hemis, and Toyota also sold a luxury car with what was basically a little Dodge hemi. There's even a T bucket or two running around with the Toyota hemi. You can't tell the difference between it and a Mopar, but again, that particular one is a V-8. Bottom line, now Mopar midget banger w/ hemi heads, lots of $$$$$; if that's not a problem, there's none that will compare. If it is, shop around; lot's of little import hemis around.
Wasnt it Mercuiser 4 cyl marine motors had 460 Ford heads on them? Saw an article yrs ago where they put Boss 429 head on it with Hillborn injectors. It made over 100 HP per cyl. FEDER
Yeah it was an aluminum block with a cast iron head and ws 3.7 litre. The boat guys hate them but they would make a killer hot rod engine with a single aluminum head!!!! I'd love to have a couple to play with.
Haha, I was going to say that too, except it would probably make more power. My flathead is a 90 horse truck motor and my little Dungwagon Corolla allready has more. If money is an issue you can pick up a Toyota 3TC hemi on the cheap and there is plenty of speed equiptment for them. For more info on these little buggers go here.... http://www.toyota3tc.com/forum/index.php
matt seret in vallejo built a bad little t with a toyota hemi. has webers, bad little header, and a joe hunt mag.
The guy who makes the Chevy big block hemi conversion also adapted a 392 hemi head on a Pontiac banger. His name is Nick Arias Jr. Here is the link http://www.nickariasjr.com/forsale.html Pretty cool shit.
Peugeot used 4-cyl hemis too, in their rear wheel drive 203,403,404,504, I think even the 505 may have used the engine...
and i happen to know what car that little bugger is goin in too... at least for a little while .... that motor is one of a kind from what i was told. not sure if i can let the cat outa the bag so i'll just leave it at a tease.
That Mopar hemi 4 cyl at Bonneville was nothing but impressive. I know its a high buck engine in racing form but WOW! Over 30 pounds of boost. I'm guessing 800 HP or so....
Poteet's Blowfish car (that sported that Chrysler 4 banger HEMI) will be getting a V8 in the not too distant future. that was the buzz around Troy's shop when we were there a month or so ago.
That car was a rocket on four cylinders...!!! Impeccable craftsmanship, Can't wait to see it on 8... Thanks for the update kustombuilder!
I think that is the KRE block, which will accept almost any V8 head. You can buy them drilled for Chevy,Ford,or Chrysler heads. It is patterned after the old Pontiac SD block, then beefed up. I think they are $2500 for the block. KRE is Kansas Race Engines,or something. They have a site.
