did the ramchargers have the awb turned roadster 65...? there is a local guy that had a awb 65 plymouth ...pretty sure it was a back yard deal....not sure if he still has it , but knowing him ...its probably still on the farm ... brandon
Maybe he's thinking of the Dodge Charger funny car team? They were 'verts, and exhibition only. Ran in the nines, I think. Jay
My bad. I thought I saw some as convertibles... Either way, thanks for all the pix. I got a new laptop and they are now my screen saver, via the "my photos" option! Jay
There were a pair of '64 Dodges that were concept cars which had a 'flying' rollbar, and were the first cars called "Chargers" There's a guy in Oklahoma that has built a very passable replica of them. I think it was featured in Mopar Collectors Guide a couple of years ago. There were so many backyard altered wheelbase cars it's hard to count them all. I've got a bunch more picutes, but they're packed away and obviously not scanned to my 'puter yet. Ted Detar was the mid west Chrysler factory "outlet" for the kits Mopar sent around to help racers convert thier cars to AWB configuration. He was in Kansas at the time, I bleieve.
I think the point is that there were a lot of "candymatic's, dating from 1963 on. If this guy owns the rights to all the 'Chargers trade names, so be it. He doesn't own the only surviving Ramchargers car. Besides, I've already seen a guy, back in '92, that had one of the '63 cars. He had to spell the name on the car itself "Ramchaagers", but because of the type font used for it, it was barely noticable. It's been a trademarked name for a long time.
Mr. Norm's was a Dodge, that's a Plymouth. Norm had a couple of '65 Dodges with blowers on them. I remember reading about one they wrecked testing it on the street.
The one that got wrecked on the streets was Butch Leal's AWB.He sold the car to Mr. Norms and one of his guys piled it up while goofing around on the streets with it.Got this info straight from mr. Leal himself.
I don't know much on the history of these, but there was a Ramcharger Dodge Wagon at the James Dean Run. It had Jim Bailey listed as the driver. I'm not sure if it was a clone or the real deal. I have a couple pics under JamesDeanRun2007 towards the bottom.
Thanks, man. I shot my load on the AWB paper link last week. If I had anything as cool, I'd post it. Thanks, again. Jay
