Does anyone make steel roof panel inserts for model a that are "ribbed" ? I have seen smooth steel ones but none that have the ribs or beads in them. Any leads? or am I gonna have to make my own?
any in particular? I was thinking a mini-van or something like that. I'd like to not have to do much reshaping if I can avoid it.
I'm not incapable of making my own, just looking to put in as little labor as possible. Yes I could make one from scratch and roll beads in it but why do that if some manufacturer already did the work for me. Also I am from NJ which limits the amount of bone yards that I can cruise around in and take measurements. Closest place around here that'll even let a guy go out in the yard is like 35 miles. And it's mostly late mode stuff. Thanks for the leads so far guys. It'll give me a something to look for. Thanks, Mike.
i've seen volvo 240 roofs used on a couple coolest one i saw, 1960 ford falcon hood, cut down and backwards so the little scoop was in the rear.
Another one to consider.....the hood of a '57 Ford Pickup...... Street rods have been around since the late 50's........a car show class of the day......
Mine is an 03 Mazda Millenia. I agree, it is a bit street-rody, but it's too late, the fucker is on there. -Abone.
Question - I've heard newer cars (80's on up) have the thin hardened sheet metal that doesn't weld very good. Any of you experienced this?
I used a 72 Vega stationwagon roof. I had to do some reshaping on the sides as it had a slight roll to the sides and didn't quite match the contour of the Model A. I heard of using a Chrysler mini-van or a mid 80's Olds Cutlass wagon on a Model A Sedan, although I haven't seen this one. Red
Used an early 70's Ford wagon on a 31 sedan. Ribs were rounded - most of the vans I looked at the local U-pullit were squared ribs.
i really like the ribs just look at pics on the web of later model rides (auto trader etc...) just to get some ideas almost any type of vehicle with a long roof has the ribs for support, wagons, vans, suvs, 4 door trucks a newer ford f150 has some cool ribs about 2 inches wide, saw one laying around at the body shop that i work at but it had the sunroof hole
I used a smooth roof on my coupe. The donor was a 70 cougar (I think mustangs are the same) it fit nicely and the curve was dead on. I am going to use ribs on my Vicky. Ollie
Please help me understand this. What are the mian differences between a "street rod" and a "hot rod". The roof on my 31 olds is filled with a smooth roof. That is considered more hot rod than street rod? Can anyone please help me understand the differences so I don't look like an A- hole next time I post something on the HAMB. BC
wish there were more 59 impala wagons out there..i would love to see my roof look that cool..too long to search for somethin like that in these neck of the woods..still wicked enough to wait ..maybe!?
