I tried this over at the Gasser list with no response, so maybe someone here will have some info. I'm looking for pics of old racers with chain drive blowers. I remember seeing a few in old magazines, but now that I'm interested, I cant find any pics. Show me what you have .... WWS

They didn't last long, for obvious reasons. Saw a few on diggers in the 60's.

At the swap meet at the nats in Louisville there was (i think) and oldsmobile rocket with a chain driven blower that came out of an early drag car. I wish i would have taken a picture.

Can you believe there are no guards on those chains? I'd hate to be on the receiving end of a broken one! Keep those cool pics coming ... WWS

If i remember right that last one is a 31 or 32 vicky i think, built by a car club. That thing is awesome. I borrowed a mag from my friend with that car in it.

Actually, guards were required after the first year or two on open motor cars. The dragster had the guards removed at the time of the picture. Here's the Howard setup.

I've heard they were no good. Why do you think all the motorcycle primaries have gone to belts?

I was at Lions once when one came off a digger and wound up in the stands. Missed everybody but DAMN!
It took a nice chunk out of a seat board.

Maybe one of the WA hambers could put you in touch with Earl Floyd. He had one on his Northwind digger.

My Dad had a 39' Ford Coupe with a blown flathead in 48'. He used 4 bicycle chains to run the blower. Never got a pic of it though. I wasn't born yet.

I saw one in How to Hot Rod your flathead book. It was a sideways 4-71 feeding a model a engine.

Probably because Mutt posted those pictures over three years ago and the attachments no longer exist.

I have several late '50s to mid '60s Hot Rod Magazines, and nearly every one of them has a digger or blown gas car running a chain.
