I know the "R" word isn't generally accepted here. The reality is I need to run radials on my flat head powered A roadster. I'm looking for a 30"ish tall blackwall to fit on 6 X 15 rims. Anyone found a good tire that fits these parameters and where to get? Not looking for the wide aspect ratio stuff or HD truck tires. I'm trying to get a bias look and help lower my rpm's at cruise speed. Thanks, PanheadGuy
If you look long enough on Tirerack.com you will find the manufacturers specs for various tire sizes.
For 30 inch tall tires without too much width, I think your best bet will be light truck tires, unless you are willing to pay specialty prices for fairly exotic stuff. By the way, if 16 inch wheels are feasible, think about 215/85R16. Tall and pretty narrow.
1st - No radial will give a bias look, except Coker's tires made for that reason. 2nd - if you want ~30 inches tall for a 6" wide rim look for 235/75R15ish size tires. They are ~29" tall and about 9" wide
On the rear of my 31 on32 rails roadster project: P235/75R-15 6" tread width 28" tall 6" x 15" wheel I'm fairly sure these tires have been discontinued brand-wise (Akuret). I did buy a pair of 185/75R-14 Douglas tires for my 32 roadster at Wally World a few weeks back. About 24" tall fwiw. They have a 5" tread width and look better than the previous 195/70R-14's that were on the car previously - 6" tread width on them. 5 1/2" wide slot mags up front fwiw. They seem to come only in a narrow whitewall and I had them mount the tires with the WW out. Pretty common back in the day and so far I'm liking them ok. I've been hitting local tire stores and the big box stores here and in Bullhead City - right across the river from Laughlin, Nevada, great place for lunch - and not having too much luck in getting a matching WW for either the 10" x 15" rear wheels or a pair of 7 1/2" x 15" wheels on the shelf. Like you, I'd like a 30" tall tire, but with 7" - 8" tread width. If you find what you're looking for, post what you found please. I'll settle for a pair of 255/75R-15's or even the 235's, but so far all I've seen are 215's which really aren't tall enough. Even with a planned swap to a more highway oriented diff ratio....
255/75R15 isn't very common (couldn't find any, which is why I ended up with 16 inch rear wheels on my roadster). I did see some 265/75R15 tires on a pickup the other day; looked like it might be worth considering.
Looking to do the same for my '39... I found that without going to a truck tire the tallest skinny tire I found was a 195/80SR16 it has a 28.2" diameter and tread width of 4.8" and it's a little taller than the 600X16 that is 27.91" and tread width of 4.63" They were used on the Toyota RAV4 EV (electric)
I'm wondering the same thing...... WHY??? Why not just run bias ply and have that purist sickness traditional look all the time...
