Day 1 Friday Night, Livonia, MI to Chicago, IL Day 2 Saturday, Chicago, IL to Omaha, NE Day 3 Sunday, Omaha, NE to ColoRODo Springs, CO Day 4 Monday, ColoRODo Springs to Durango/Pikes Peak Climb Day 5 Dugango to Silerton on the Train Day 6 Wednesday, Aug 8th Blanding, UT Woke up Wednesday morning to bright blue skies and plenty of sunshine. The plan was for a large group of HAMB and RRT folks to go hiking together. 1FatGMC lives in Blanding and every year, right before Speed Week, he leads folks on day long hikes. Jim Rivers AKA River1 was up from AZ, the North of 49 crew including Mike AKA Cword, was down from Calgery, Benny and Bart were in from TX, George AKA PurplePickup was there from Western Michigan, Patrick from OK, and along with us and Sumner AKA 1FatGMC, I think we totaled over 15 on the days adventure. Started off at Sumners place which is directly across the street from a very nice Super 8 where everyone stayed. Had a quick breakfast sitting on the race car trailer. Headed out to our first stop Both hot rods and daily drivers were needed to make sure everyone got out to the hiking start point Megan and I were extremely prepared with our Chucks This was no walk in the park yet we had ages from 5 years old to Cwords mom at 71. Everyone kept up and no one complained. The reward is well worth it On to another site
In this particular cave (for lack of a better term) was a box with a guest book in it. I wrote all of our names, ages and hometowns and added a Salt Cured HAMB Tour 07 sticker. Me and Sumner Everyone went down the slide. Larrys in the white shirt Megans turn I knew we wore our chucks for good reason .sure made it easier to slide Once back to our cars we had a quick bite to eat then headed out to a second location. We only drove Big Olds and Larrys roadster so far then left them on the side of the road cuz Sunmer said it was best .and he was right. I could have never kept up on those washboard roads. Once there we hiked out alittle bit to this view Cword did drive his out there and I give him all the credit in the world Once back in Blanding we cleaned up and headed over to Sumners for a BBQ prepared by Rob who is Cwords brother and a professional chief. He cooks for the North of 49 team and anyone else who stumbles into their pits at lunchtime. The best pork loin Ive ever had I swear. THANKS so much Rob for all the effort and hard work that went into preparing and serving. Was absolutely delicious.

My thoughts exactly! The slightest bug noise had me looking around. The hike was a lot of fun. The ruins were really neat and very well preserved for being hundreds of years old. Sumner was a great guide. We really had fun hanging out with Cword and family. Rob's little girls were a blast. We all had fun on the 'slide' as you can see!
I agree with rusty48 Denise. Couldn't make it to Bonneville this year so I've been watching for your posts. Ever get down to Vegas, we'll show you around here. Thanks for the entertainment, as usual!
My wife and myself spent a day and a half with Sumner just before the World Finals. We went hiking also, fantastic country and a great host. Sumner went to the salt with us, had some bad luck, dropped another exhaust valve on the first run, went 234 mph at the 4 mile mark.
