I bought this project almost a year ago. I was in my last year of school and didn't have any money so it sat. Now I have graduated, am making money, sold my other toy and have a goal... it's time to start busting my ass.

Today I realized that to do what I wanted I would have to undo and redo some things on this chassis... at that point I decided to start from the bottom and do it my way.

A few calls to Riley Automotive, and I'm on my way.

Before I go on... huge thanks to Eric at Riley Auto and Ryan for The Alliance. Great vendors and kick ass discounts.

I just placed my order for:
    • Riley Automotive double Z'ed Model A frame (8" rear, 4" front)
    • Complete Pete & Jakes front end setup (axle, spring, spindles, hubs, kingpins, haripins, steering arms, side steer hoop, tie rod, front shock mounts and shocks, etc)
    • Pete & Jakes rear ladder bars
    • Rear buggy spring/mounts
    • Front shock mounts and shocks
    • '39 Lincoln brakes (backing plates, guts, drums, scoops)
    • Firewall
    • '39 Ford taillights
    • Adapter rings for '35 Ford wires on the Lincoln brakes
I also bought this stuff from other sources today
    • '54 Ford F100 steering column, wheel, box, pitman arm
    • Rebel Rods 9+2 circuit wiring harness and gauge harness
    • Wilwood dual master cylinder/pedal setup
    • Wilwood throttle pedal/cable
    • Complete body wood kit

Holy shit, I'm pumped! I almost forgot how much fun this is!

Here's how it sits right now... and this chassis pictured is now for sale as is:

Expect an update as parts start arriving.

I hope to be driving it to the Roundup in '08.

No big update... but the last piece that will go on the car was the first piece to get here

Also crossing my fingers that the 341 Hemi/Torqueflite deal works out. I want my very own Hemi coupe :D

    Join The Alliance :)

No idea, I didn't do the chop. It's just a hole cut out of the body... no frame or anything. I have rectangle frame, I just haven't gotten around to any body work yet.

    3.55 9" from a '68 Bronco.

We missed each other last week when they drove back from your place, but she is coming back north later this week.

With all these parts coming at once, every day is like Christmas...
 :D <--- Me right now.

Are you going to bend those steering arms, or run them in front of the axle?

They are made to go with the hairpins, putting the tie rod behind the axle like god and Henry Ford meant it to be.

OK, got some work done tonight.

'Gotgas' came over and we took some leaves out of the front spring so we could compress it with minimal effort, mounted the spindles and set the frame to ride height, measured and got everything squared up, and made templates for the hairpin mounts.

Tomorrow I'll CAD my hairpin brackets and have a friend in Lubbock CNC plasma cut them and hopefully get them to me by Sunday when I get back in town.
Sunday, if I get the brackets, I should be able to finish up the front end, minus wheels and tires.

Also, two of my wheels are being shipped to Stockton tomorrow to be widened to fit the 8.90-16 Firestones

And I still need a quality shop in DFW to blast and powdercoat my front wheels asap if anyone has a recommendation.

  19. Cool project,

One head's up, DON'T send your wheels to Stockton wheel if you ever want them back !!!!!! They make all kinds of promises until they get your wheels, then it is nothing but excuses.

    My 2 cents,

I can't find anywhere else to widen my wheels :(

No one locally, that I know, of will widen steel wheels, and then most places that will widen steelies will not work on wires...

    Have any recommendations?

  22. Rally America ,

I think they can do what you want, I even recall a tech article on here about it and they are even an Alliance vendor. The guy who own's the place son is on the board all the time, his screen name is Wheel kid I think. I have heard nothing but good thinks about them.

You should do a seach on Stockton wheel's if you are curious about there business practice's.

After reading some stuff about Stockton I changed my mind. Thanks guys.
I just sent them to Wheel Works in NJ. Around $125 per wheel, usually done in a week or so. I saw some positive stuff about them in another thread around here somewhere.

    FYI on Rally America...
Jimmy told me they do not widen stock ford wires.
But otherwise, they are great to deal with :p :D The rear adapters and center caps I got from them kick all sorts of ass

Matt, Your build looks like it will be one KOOL Ride ! I am also doing an "A". Mine is a 31 on an Acehole frame. Just got it to where it is a roller and the body is on the frame and we are making body mounts.

Cut down the P&J mounts and got the front end tacked in place. I just need to pack the bearings and put the hubs on... once the wheels are powdercoated the front will be ready to put on the ground.

Oh, has anyone seen my rear spring u-bolts

The front still needs drums but they are on their way. Other than that, steering is about all thats needed.

The rearend has been blasted clean, and I cut off the old leaf spring perches and shock mounts. I got the 4-link and spring brackets on (but not mounted).

My rear wheels have been widened and are in transit back to me (will be here Thursday). I am also waiting on the Dagel's crossmemeber. Once those two things get here I should be able to get the rear suspension and all bracing done.
