I've been calling around to see about getting my springer chromed, and I was given a quote of $350 to 675 (ballpark). Jesus thats more that I paid for the damn thing. Sorry just a rant.
From what I understand, it will be Illegal to chrome parts in the state of California within the next year Commies...
HIGH PRICE, YOU BET!!! I've been sending my stuff to Canada, but it's still big bucks. Can't afford any shops around here in Seattle.....they ask twice the $$$$.....OLDBEET
I looked into having my 54 1/2 GMC grille rechromed...$950 up here in Seattle! Piss on that. I'll be painting that son of a bitch. And powdercoating: $70 per wheel to blast and coat, ouch!
Jeffro .. there is a chrome shop in Balch Springs .. just South east of town(Dallas) called Economy Plating If you dont have a buddy at a bumper shop these guys are probably the most reasonable ..... they can do just two-stage plate(cheaper price and still ok quality) or a tripple chrome(copper, nickel, chrome) a lot of shops in town send their stuff to Economy
Plan a little trip south of the border, no epa in Mexico makes it affordable. Trick is finding a good reputable shop if you don't speak spanish, but it is doable, may cost you a "finders" fee.
I've given up trying to get my grille chromed for now at least until I'm done with college. Maybe a trip across the border is what I need to plan. 11 teeth=lots of money
I had some stuff done in Mexico... Tecate, to be exact... There are a couple decent shops a few hours south of the border (from CA... i would assume the same would be true from TX). The prices arent as good as they were in the early 90's... but they are a LOT better than here in the states. Go with a native-spanish speaking friend if at all possible (unless youre a native spanish speakin dude)... the prices will be a lot cheaper that way. Not highschool spanish... pisano
I have found that the price of chrome is getting real high, but here in Canada it isn't as bad as most of you guys have to pay. I see a lot of parts getting sent up here lately. Problem is the cost of disposing the chemicals and the enviromental issues. It is also nice to find a chrome shop that has good polishers, and you have to pay good money for good talent in that department, cause a crappy polisher can ruin your parts. Hence, more overhead and more cost to us. I must say though, I wouldn't be a polisher for all the tea in China, it has to be the shittiest, dirtiest job on the planet!
its all in the labor, i polished all of my own chrome myself, took it in person to duke city plating in albuquerque, first thing in the morning, picked it up at the end of the business day, real cheap! but if they gotta polish it...6-8 weeks "regular" after you spend a week polishing that springer yourself, you'll know where the $$ goes! but it will probably only run you 100-150. if that.
