Need some help, one of the guys I work with is importing a 49 Ford Coupe with a genuine 43000 miles on the clock. But it still runs the inline flat 6. What we want to know is what and where can we get parts for this engine? Also does a v8 bolt upto the 6cyl. bellhousing and clutch assembly or does it all need to be changed? Thanks in advance....
Belmont Rod and Custom in Mass. You'll find Billy's details in the small "Mag-Neto" zine... Mr birthday boy
You'll need a V8 bell housing if you swap engines; the back of the six block was a different pattern.
Parts: Joblot Automotive(Ford Parts Specialists) in Queens, LI, NY Little Dearborn Parts, Minneapolis MN
I was intending on building my flathead six in my '49 coupe, but it was hard to find speed parts for it. For little things, like kits, and water pumps and pretty anything thats stock you can order the catalogues for Dennis Carpenter, Kanter, or MAC's. They have pistons, bearings everything. Sometimes you can find a dual intake setup for a Ford Flathead six on evilbay, I bid on one, and the guy never got back to me. Oh well. Jim from Red's headers spoke to me about making a set of headers, drop them a line, they can pretty much make you anything, in any plating you want. I waited, and I'm getting a flathead 8 delivered today for free. But I would love to see build progress on the six. See you on the streets. -Rick
Egge in California has engine rebuild bits. You may also want to try Terrel machine parts in tex. no webite but advertised in Hemmings etc.
