Anyone recommend a good book on welding with a nice MIG section and also with purdy pictures of welds and troubleshooting the crappy welds?

Best overall book on the market: Welding Principles and Applications by Larry Jeffus. It's a textbook used by most technical schools and covers pretty much everything. ISBN 1-4018-1046-2.

  6. I second the Larry Jeffus book.

    I 3rd that.

I use it in my Advanced TIG classes. It's hell of a book with tons of good reading and illustrations.

It's worth the money, just don't leave it in class on the last day of the semester. ($100 lesson learned, hah)

  9. There are 2 non textbooks that I use and rely on because all the information is related to car building. They are:
    Welders Handbook,
    publisher HP books,
authors, Richard Finch and Tom Moore
    and
    Metal Fabricator's Handbook
    HP books 709
    Fournier

I don't know if they are still in print, but I have had good luck using Amazon used books website.
