Ok so school me on traditional flames, none of this true flames stuff.. i wanna see what the old style's look like and what they're 'called', I know every design/pattern has a certain name, ie. crabclaw ?? Here's some i found online.. I think the model is alittle more old school, right? Show me your achives... Hot rod or Custom.. Thanks -Anthony
The early flames were not that good looking Watson made them into what we consider today the norm for flames. The watson sea weed style are my favorite. Sorry dont have any pics on hand (my scanner is down) of the earlier styles but the good ones start with watson. That real flame dose nothing for me either. Those above pics are pretty much the begining of good looking flame jobs. But alas that is just my opinion wich dose count alot in my book.
This is the first set of flames I ever saw. 1952 Agajanian Spl, Built by Eddie Kusma In 1952, a paint job like this was a radical ride.
I too am a fan of the early style flames, more so than the newer style. I love the look of that shoebox...
Well, I consider myself pretty well versed in the true fire style these days. I can understand that it has no place on an early styled rod or kustom, but flames just had to evolve to that. No sense dissin' the art form. I do the tribal style too. Again not for old styled rods but still kool on the right car, doncha think?
real early flames{by VonDutch} sorta crude actually, only 2 of these pics exsist, i have one of them. thats Stan Betz's shop truck when he first started out .
Here's my '54 Ford Customline, cheap ass paint job but I sort of like the flames. I might use the same type of flames when I finally get around to repainting it.
Only two small ones at this moment. I think I have a magazine with some more... but I cant find them right now. The Merc was built for Larry Lorenzo.
I may be the only one here to say this... but flames do nothing for me. I mean, your car, your paint, your business.... but I just don't get it. I checked this thread out because I thought it would change my opinion on the topic maybe... Now scallops on the other hand.....
You might see if you can find a picture of Bob McCoy's 40 or Tom McMullen's 32. Larry T http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=151277&highlight=bob+McCoy
