Cool with a chop top, or Gangster if you section the hood and trunk as well.

Just remember, it's supposed to IMPROVE the looks of the car.

Most are so out of proportion when chopped as much as alot are, I'd go for the mild chop.

Cool= class that you cant "just go out&buy"..

It takes cool guys to understand...

  16. I vote 3" ....level. for what its worth-
laying the rear down as in your sketch,KILLS the real good looks and only qualifies as a GAWK FACTOR....not an improvement at all.

Yeah, I vote for the cool look.

"Gangster" more often than not seems to be all kinds of wrong.

how come so many poeple want to cut them TOO much. make it FLOW keep the lines just push tehm a little. over chopped cars not very impresive. if you cut it. keep it simple. there are a lot of GREAT chops here. look at the 49chevy BASS(i think) is doing.... WOW

early 50's Cadillacs are beautiful cars. you can modify them and have a beautiful modified car, or you can fuck them up big time and have a stupid car, or worse.. a parts car.

think before you cut. and most important... GLASS before you cut.

Make it one more for me, too. Keeping it stock would look really nice as well. Those early 50's Cadillacs are awesome as-is. There's really no need to do anything to them at all.

  25. Gangster = I thought as much. Thanks guys. With chops, the glass factor is important as mentioned. Also why chop? Because you can is not a good reason. And chopping the living shit out of something because you can is not a good reason either. Yes, over chopped cars are stupid bragging rights pieces of dumb shit. And ugly.

    I think I covered it.

    thanks for the input, fellas.

im still not sure what im going to do but i still have plenty of time to decide... i may keep it "cool" and lay the back down just a little more... im kind of fond of the slope look. I agree that you can over do it. I will try to control myself.

I havent seen to much talk on here about sectioning a car/hood/decklid. maybe sombody needs to do a tech or someone can school me on the reasons and etiquette of sectioning.

    thanks again.

Check out the sectioning/pancaking that was done to the 49" Chevy Styleline sports coupe.
He provided lots of step by step pictures to take some of the mystery out of smoothing deck lids down.

I'd keep it cool as well ... an early Caddy just doesn't need anything to make it cool. A little trim might accentuate it, but a flat out lid slam would just be redonkulous.

you want your top to be 1/3 the hieght of the side of the body . If you go gangster sectoin the body until the car no longer looks dis-proportionate.
I would cut the roof to 9 inch side windows, take 2 inches out of the beltline around the car, and then whack the sides an inch or two.

im not familiar with the Chevy you are talking about... who did it?

Jonz. thanks for the advice. is the beltline the area that the trim just below the glass would sit? im heading out to the garage now to take some measurements.
