I don't know if the Jalopy Showdown at Latimore Valley in May was better than this, but if you weren't at Beaver Springs over the weekend you missed a great time. Blessed with incredible weather, Scary Larry Garland put together a perfect, first-time event. Beaver Bob McCardle provided the ideal venue, his staff and crew performed flawlessly, while the hardest working man in show business, P.A announcer, ringmaster, flag starter extraordinaire, and all-around nice guy, FlashBack Bill, was on the mic for seven hours straight, making sure there was never a dull moment. I don't know what Bob pays him, but he earns every penny. Having fun was the theme of the day. Laid-back Larry got this thing together. Ex-drill instructor Bob orchestrated it with precision, while Bill's exuberance and enthusiasm kept things rolling along, and on schedule. If anyone didn't have a good time, it wasn't the fault of any of these guys. Temp.'s in the 70's, low humidity, and brilliant sunshine made the setting, nestled in the Appalacian Mountains of PA, the perfect backdrop for one memorable event. Don't miss next year's Showdown!
great show but one thing that was missing was the mud on the So Whats 999 car! It was very odd seeing it goin straight and not sideways.
Thanks for the great pics! Wish i coulda been there this year... but there's alway's next!! That Vette just kill's me everytime i see a pic of it! That's got to be the BADDEST Vette i have ever seen! LOVE that car! Tony
Great shots GW! Thanks for posting them...and not posting my second place finish in the Hot Dog Race. 999 needs a new clutch now... Spike
Hey nice pics. I had a blast up there, and i got a ton of videos to upload which hopefully i'll have up tomorrow. Definitely a go-to event next year too.

I tell you, what a great time we had....did not want to leave. Thanks again to everyone for such a fantastic day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT shots. Thanks for sharing. So, fill us in on the crunched license plate on the back of Jr's car.....BobK run into it??
This weekend was a blast. As stated before, awesome weather, awesome cars and most importantly awesome people. A big thanks to Beaver Bob and Flashback Bill for being the coolest track owners I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I know at Maple Grove they wouldn't allow the Stingray Flashlight Drags down the 200ft! Anyways here are 2 quick videos I got with my camera. (digital not a camcorder) I would have taken more but was quite limited with space on the memory card. Flashback Bill as the flagman in the first. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMUAnIA9JQk&mode=user&search= and the final (I think) hot dog race! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7CEgTRb9kY&mode=user&search= I have a ton of pictures to post up and will be putting a gallery up on my site but for now here is one of my favorites (even though its not the best quality.) Here is the URL for the image. its the Rebel Reaper with some nice ripples in the rear tires and the front have somehow... lifted off the strip http://www.engraym.com/jalopyshowdown/images/rebel-reaper.jpg The beaver gave me a good burn, didn't notice the irritation until the morning after! Mike OH does anyone know how frank did getting home with his 62 4 door buick??? He was pissing tranny fluid everywhere but he got it fixed to the point where he should make it home with a box of tranny fluid for refills along the way.
Flatdog...glad you ran into me Jr was around. Jr's plate fell off his car (a forgotten receiver pin) on it's maiden voyage. It's been that way ever since. Great pics!!! Great time!!! No we didn't launch the rear. I forgot the clutch was slipping from the last showdown...maybe just old. Next year we'll try harder to break something. Clark
