yeah its something to clean up the leaves in your back yard with really fast ...because it has a v8 in it..lol
don't tell me your tired of seeing tail draggin hot rods.... oh by the way .....you got my kid in trouble at school.....got caught drawin' that green v-dub bus dragster in class..... brandon
Like you used to see on 77-80 Camaros and Firebirds with the 15x10 slots on the rear with "traction bars" and with pizza cutters up front.
jeem, In the early days of hot rodding if you dumped your ride down low in front and higher in the back, the stance would be called a rake. You still see this stance in hot rods of today bring lower in the front. It's the opposite of a tail dragger with the rear end being lower. Hope this answers your question. Cruiser
Is this going someplace? Roughly 2*-3* to give a little down force and keep the front end from lifting at speed. Or, are you going after the big and littles combination/aesthetic tangent?
"yeah its something to clean up the leaves in your back yard with really fast ...because it has a v8 in it..lol" Beat me to it! Damn, what a setup!
Rake???? They stopped using those years ago!! Get with the program... We are all using hot rod blowers now.
When I was a pup and these questions were VERY important, we decided that a California Rake was about 4" drop in the front with stock rear. A Frenched Rake was about 4" in front and 2" rear. A Hot Rod Rake was about 2"-3" front only augmented by a substantial tire differential. Think 5:60s in front and 8:20s out back. A Rubber Rake was that same tire deal but without a dropped front.
AFAIK, it originated in lakes racing with bigs and littles. Littles in the front brought it down for aero advantage. Bigs in the rear for taller top end. In customs and design terms, it's the visual of a car's profile, usually describing how much angle the surfaces have in relation to the ground plane. This can be separated to describe the belt line (lower window edge), or the wedge of "air" you see under the car in profile. Or, the whole surface of the car can have a visual "rake" even if the belt line or underbody remain parallel to ground.
Back before there was a performance aftermarket, the rear tires were taller, because that was the only way to get a wider tread to improve traction. Performance was everything. Now it's a distant 3rd place (or lower) for some.
my kid's camaro has a nice hot rod rake, but it don't make it go any faster...that old 250 is still a turd
I've found that a 4 degree forward rake leads to improved fuel mileage.....because you're going downhill most of the time.
was going to say how much I missed the old hamb days with all the joking and shit, but now I'm thinking that the people on here not realizing when someone is joking is beginning to get funnier and funnier....like the mcphail post...lol...glorious!
HAHAHAHAH!!!! I flew to Seattle and back with a co-worker a few years back. He was marveling at the fact that the flight home was 20 minutes shorter. I told him it was because it was all downhill. He believed me.
I see alot of Model A's being built here that really could use a rake.... Is it a trend now to have an ass draggin' A coupe?????? Classic Rashy......
I knew when "that" Model A showed up on the board and nobody 'board raped the guy that perception of cool was changing. I still hate "that" A - and I hate all of the other ones that keep showing up that look just like it. You want a lesson in rake? Four words The Tardel - Cochran Coupe.
Is it like a "rubber rake" where the cars sits level when it's sitting on the rims, and when you put the big and little rubber on it, it gives it a rake? Sam.
