Still curious, why are they called Shannon cones? PS, I think they look cool on deep wheels. Silly on the end of a hubcap, though.
???? OK Richard who? Shag's name is Shannon, doesn't splain Shannon cones. Are they Irish? I don't remember ever seeing them on a car on the street till about the same time "Smoothies" came out. Are they something from the 70's, which would splain why I don't remember them? Or, not from around here? Meaning not a So. Cal. trend item?
Richard Esajian, of Esajian Enterprises. The guy who invented them. I just talked to him on the phone and that's what you said. The bolt on style came out in about 67 and the type for smoothies came in about '73. Esajian is from Fresno so maybe it was kinda a local thing, but I wasn't around then so I don't know. Any remember seeing the bolt on style back in the day?? Jimmy
I have a set that have a gold "Esajian" sticker on the inside. The flange thing is too small for modern smoothies. I cut the flange off one to see how they'd look on Versailles wheels, but haven't figured out how to moun them to stay true.
Thanks, Jimmy. I ALWAYS wondered why they were called Shannon Cones. The HAMB is the rod or custom encylopedia. Ask a question and among the several wise ass comments comes the nugget of truth. Ain't it cool?
They go by many names, madonna caps, cone caps, bullet caps, and titty caps, to name a few. But the inventor called them shannon cones
Great! I'd like to hear everyones opinion. We're pretty sure we're going to make the screw on type, but we need to find a sample one for fords, all the ones I have are for chevys Jimmy
I'm down for the 5x5.5 cones. but MORE down for 5x5.5 spider caps -Like others have mentioned you would sell a TON of those...
Any hope for some stainless ones? How big of a piece of metal are the stamped from? And what gauge? Need a practice piece(s),?
Shannon cones look good ONLY on a few nicely lowered customs. But a Starliner will wear a set very well them all day long no matter what. My guess is that your market will be very limited unless you have the means to either lower your piece cost, or get them out to every show you are able. For the design, I would take 1 1/2 to 2 inches of the "height" of the cone out. When I saw those pics above, the cone looked a little exaggerated in proportion to the wheel size. They look good in that smooth-section wheel though. It might make them look better on a wider variety of customs, too. My 2 pesos.
Ok we're doing it. We talked to our spinner today, First we're doing the bolt ons for chevy wheels. So who wants them??
I love 'em, have ever since I saw 'em in an issue of Hot Rod mag in '77 on a chopped '55 Chevy sedan delivery, I think it mighta been a Dean Jeffries car. They look like tits, I love tits, especially big snow white lactating ones. I'd like to hook up a set of Shannon cones that shoot milk out of 'em for car show use. Fuck crying baby dolls, lactating hubcaps that's now, that's wow.
