I got a buick 263 straight eight. A week ago it was running like a top yesterday as I was driving her and she acted like she was out of gas, but she wasnt. Brought her back to the house and put in new points, plugs, cap, rotor, wires, and condensers. I gapped out my plugs and set my points according to the factory specs and she still wont start. I am getting plenty of gas to the carb Im getting a week spark at number one plug. up front thanks for any help I can get because she just wont start.
Check your plugs as mentioned.. if dry...Add some gas by hand and see if it'll start. If not go to your distributor for evaluation...and check condenser!!!
yeah was going to say condensor too but he said re replaced it..but they do go bad and if they do the spark sucks..just went thru that on a 6 cyl. here at work last week
Checking the coil's a good idea, but two more questions: Is it still six volt, and how old is the gas? Stale gas and slow cranking aren't a good combination.
For the ten cents it would cost, I'd replace the small wire from the coil to the distributor. Cracked insulation on that wire drove one of my friends nuts one time. It was shorting to the distributor housing and the car wouldn't start.
Try Some Starter Fluid.this Wont Solve The Problem But If It Starts You Can Tell Better Where The Problem Is.
If you can't think of anything else to change, get a compression gauge & a test light ... do a little checking instead of changing.
