What is the COOLEST Looking V8 you would have in your HotRod

    The nicest looking engine is the V-8 Ford Flathead.

    If I was building an older hotrod than what I have (mine are a 41 and 55) I would be using an 30-32 Oakland/Pontiac v-8. The intake and exhaust manifolds are on top of the engine and the exhaust goes thru the inside of the block and comes out on the drivers side.

    My favorite without a doubt is the 348/409. I have just always loved there look and sound. Nailheads and ardun flatties are cool too.

    Pontiac tri power engines look cool. Paint it the factory baby blue, too. And the good old flathead sure looks right at home in an early rod.

    Building just about all the above mentioned units they all have their own "very distinctive" appearance AND it comes down to the customer's own preference.

    I've most recently delivered a couple "dual-quad" 409's, a couple of the early 392 Hemi's, dual carbed and a "blown", I have a "Flathead"
    or two here at all times, and one of the best one's I got involved with most recently is up in Massachusetts running around the streets on pump-gas in a '51 Willy's "old-school".

    The photo below shows the "Nailhead" finished and just before it made some 11.7/11.8 passes up in "New England Dragway" as I said, on "pump-gas"!!! A real "eye-catcher" for sure!

    When choosing a unit (engine) for a particular "ride" you should try to keep the entire project as close to "period-correct" to the type of vehicle as possible, within reason of course.

    For "all-out" street-rod style builds where the engine is very visible, it pays to "do your homework" most thoroughly.

    P.S. Just about all my customers' with these type cars want to be able to use "pump-gas" from nozzles, they try to avoid builds requiring "special" fuels!!

    A Novi, four cam Ford Indy engine, 4.5 litre Maserati, Cosworth F-1, Ardun, 392 Chysler, 289 Small block Ford with 4 Webers. Really nothing special!

    It would be WAY too much power for it, but I'd love to have a Hemi in my T Bucket. If anything, just for the look of it.

    My vote would be either a 409 or a 318 Poly with the sawtooth valvecovers and 3x2bbls

    well if i had the money..and say what you will...
    I have always wanted a full blown race 426 Mopar hemi ..about a 1968 or 69 set up..all done up , but still be streetable..(on the edge)
