Does running the 6v horn on 12v shorten it's lifespan?

  4. Lets say that a 6volt horn is designed to 12,000 beeps, honks, or whatever. Run it on 12 volt and you might reduce that by 50% (guess). that would leave 6,000 beeps, honks, toots, or whatever.

If your really worried about it place an inline resistor before the horn, radioshack sells them. Same ones used for you fuel sending units.

How Many times you planning on tooting your own HORN? :D

Some days I wear a WWI german helmet... But that's more of a 'spike'...

Otherwise I wear a traditional Viking helmet...

I plan on using a set of Fiamms off a Fiat Spider. This is a dual air horn that runs off a small air compressor. This horn set-up is also used on all of the classic Ferraris so that "Ferrari air horn sound" is what it sounds like. It's loud as shit under a closed hood so on a hot rod it should be really loud.

There is a company called "Blazer" that sells a cheapo version of these at Autozone. Look for two horns, one shorter than the other. They are usually blue.

I've got an air horn from a eighteen wheeler. Just haven't found the perfect place to mount it. Just using my mouth and the zoomies for now! Have fun with that.

I'm using the original horn in my 38 chevy. It seems to be much louder on 12 volts than it was on 6. Been using it for 33 years now and its still making lots of noise.

1922 Sparton. 6v but soon to be rewound for 12v. I think it may have been from a fire truck as the base paint was red.

I'm still using an original model A horn...moved it from the headlamb bar to the radiator supports...mounted it on a easy to build bracket.
