I have been trying to come up with a color that I would eventually like to paint my 5w. I have seen many in the past and I have found that most don't look all that great in primary colours (they look to much like 1980-1990s boyd-mobiles) and I am trying to stay away from black because EVERYONE seems to have a black 36.

A semi-gloss or matte finish would be nice. Does anyone have any pictures of other 35/36 fords in more unique colors?

I was thinking perhaps an army green in a matte finish. Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

I really like those cars in an off-white, vanilla shake, even beige.
Then put some red or orange wheels on it. Not too flashy, but it floats my boat.

For a Hot Rod I would go with an semi gloss olive or another drab green like you said. I'll second that off white or beige with dark rims.

For a Custom I would go gold, copper or a dark lime green

That is if I owned one

  4. How about a dove grey with olive green wheels?

Don't go for flat or semi-gloss. The beautiful lines of a '36 will get lost. I suggest Washington Blue, Dove Grey or a more modern Silver

Maybe not everyone has a black '36.

It just seems like the easy way out. Chances are I will be hemming and hawing over a more unique color and end up saying "screw it... black it is".

    Heh.

Everyone has a black 36 Ford coupe because thats the color that car looks best in along with red Steelies. When it comes time to sell it, you'll be glad you painted it black. Any other color it becomes that much harder to move it.

Just giving you a hard time. 3 of ours are black with black wheels. :D

That said though, the cabriolet is going to be a color, and so far I am thinking either maroon or washington blue. But I am a long way from paint, so who knows. We are in the process of painting our shop truck a pre war dark green and I am so in love with that color right now.

I will disagree with Al on the satin look if done right. That chopped blue one from SoCal looks so good. You need the right level of sheen though.

Oh nobody is going to pick the color for me.

It's just nice to get ideas from people that have a slightly different perspective.

I would like to see a picture of that sometime.

I agree. I would definitely go with a decent amount of sheen so that it catches the light right.

This picture was what got me considering going with the satin look. Personally this color is a bit too blue for me (hence the drab/olive green thought). I would probably also stick with a gloss black grille/dash/steelies to mix it up a bit.

I like that '35. I would suggest less flattening agent though. Do you know the blue one I mentioned? I'll see if I can find a pic.

Thats exactly the sheen I was looking for.

Should look great with some striping.

I am painting my 36 p/u moselle maroon (40 ford color) and I vory.

36's look good in dark green(nonmetallic), Washington Blue and any shade of off white/tan, black is good but I understand your thoughts on that as well.

I'm with Django, that blue 5-window is one of the coolest I've ever seen. Got a bunch of pics of it from Viva. The sheen is perfect, the way it reflects light, maybe a little less flat than a suede? If not the color, a metallic with that sheen would be gorgeous.

If I had to choose, it would be shiny black. It sounds like you are shying away from that, so my second choice would be shiny black.

That looks like mercedes gold with the metallic. That car looks good in any color.

In the new gazette there is a NICE shiny black 5 window. Except for the wheels, it is BEAUTIFUL.
