That mouse urine is extremely corrosive.

That parts store coffee tastes like the aforementioned fluid.

What have hot rods taught you?

having an old hot rod has taught me the backroads that cops don't usually travel on.

that a truly GOOD car will only ever fuck you gently....

that it'll only strand you 200 yards from goodguys at the mcdonalds, two blocks from jegs and around countless helpful car guys that will go out of their way to help...

that said good car will only ever break a pushrod off ABOVE the head with enough length to grab...

and that she'll make it home after filing the top of the valve stem heavily to true it up...

oh yeah, and that the mobil 10-30 that mcdonald's soap won't wash off smells great, all day.

  14. even as "green"as our recycling a form of the oldest type of transportation is... every aspect of doing so seems to get us in trouble...owning,storing, , buying, selling, building , driving , licensing....
even just talking about hotrods classifies us as being ...
    "one of them !"

That I want to go Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faste rand Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster and Faster.......

  20. What has hot rodding taught me? Well for starters:

    Never throw hammers.
I never be able to build them all.
Car are nowhere near as important as family, friends and freedom.
    Rust tastes awful.
They don't build 'em like they used to. (Take that one any way you want to.)
Block sanding isn't nearly as glamorous as it sounds.
    Brake fluid stings the eyes.
    Cars have souls.
Rebuilding carbs is not as easy as it sounds but I'll get it right someday.
Gasoline scent lingers like a long lost lover's kiss but I'd prefer the kiss.
    Peeling chrome is very sharp.
    It can always be fixed.
Some will always be faster than you are, at the drags, the swap meets, and at the junk yard.
BLC headlights are overpriced, way overpriced.
I'll probably never own a Deuce.
I must have a roadster before I shake off this mortal coil.
I love teaching folks what I know.
I love to sew even at 3 AM but I know enough to go to bed long before then.
Rodders are some of the nicest most down to earth folks you'll ever want to meet.
I really, REALLY dig a clean early 50's custom.
I love the smell of burning rubber.
    I need another old truck.
There's room for more parts somewhere.
I know it's in here somewhere.

Mostly, that being a rodder, doesn't necessarily mean you have a runner or even a project at the moment. It's really a state of mind, a way of being and it's in you or it ain't.

It's taught me to be calmer, more patient, and that there's beauty amidst the chaos and rust.

That I am my own worst enemy........and self induced torture..........and what WEREROD said..........Littleman....and in the end, everytime you solve and conquer a problem, the more empowered you become.

  22. All the great guys i've met here on the HAMB. Kinda corny, but true. Wish I would've started with hotrods when I was younger, instead of VW's. The hotrods I could've had with the money I spent on VW's...oh well. Cant wait to build my first hotrod!

How it feels to want. What it feels like to lay awake and imagine how it will be when it is "done". How much it hurts to know you have the love but not the means to rescue a car that someone would rather let rot in their field than sell for cheap. What it's like to lose all joy or even tolerance for a day job that has absolutely nothing to do with old cars. That I can read every book in the world, but I will never truly learn until I have done it with my own two hands. That I'm glad I'm not alone in this passion and that the internet bands a group of people together for a common purpose.
