The full coverage on my '54 Caddy is by Hagerty and was sold to me by the local Allstate agent. I stated a value of $15,000 and it costs me ~$150/year. As long as I have an alternate insured primary vehicle, they don't give me too much grief over the number of miles I put on it (I know some insurance companies try to keep you from driving it to work, using it as a backup vehicle, etc). All of my other insurance--home, life, and other autos--is through USAA, so they obviously don't have a problem insuring just this one vehicle.

My '60 is insured with Geico. My other insurance company wouldn't cover it, so I went shopping for a new company. Insurance for my business vehicles and the '60 was cheaper than I was paying for just the other vehicles! Fifteen minutes really did save me money on my car insurance!

    www.grundy.com

    EXamples:

    1932 Ford Roadster value $10,000 = $202.33 per year

    1932 Ford Roadster value $25,000 = $199.83 per year

Yes, you read that right. Premiun is less on a car valued more because of the different underwriter that is used for the different values. KNOW your policy and exactly what the company offers.

    www.Hagerty.com

    1932 Ford Roadster value $10,000 = $236.00 per year

    1932 Ford Roadster value $25,000 = $446.00 per year.

Most folks that I know have Grundy. I'm goin' to check out American Hobbist. They are involved with the Jolapy Journal. Get the link from the home page.

  11. i have condon and skelly. i have not had to file a claim yet so i can not tell you about good or bad service.i pay 60 bucks a year on my chevy that never leaves the garage (15000 stated value) and about 260 or so for my 36 ford that gets driven all the time(25000 apraisal). i think the ford has a 5000 mile a year limit. i always carry the highest coverage i can get , if you go with less coverage, you would probably pay less. mike

American Hobbyist. Around $60 a year, $5,000 agreed value, and no deductible.

  14. FWIW, I have Unitrin Direct right now and they suck ass. They never took one truck off the policy, so owe me a refund for at least a year on it, and they claim they won't insure cars older than 1940. They want an arm and a leg for my '50, too. I'm going to dump them for someone else as soon as I get the refund situation sorted out.

I need to insure one so I can go get a registration on it... any of these places care if I put one on for three months with like a $1500 stated value?

I had American National and then went to Hagerty as the rates were almost cut in half... Then I went to American Hobbyist. You can read about that experience here:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/?page_id=514

Either way, do a search on the HAMB... tons of opinions.

  16. I have Progressive. They insure my 1953 Plymouth with full coverage with an agreed value. I didnt have to have another car either. Cant beat their customer service!!!

I even get to carry the insurance when I move to Texas.

  17. American Hobbyist. 2 cars, one at 10k, one at 3k, $0 deductible on collision and comp, and I pay $204.00 a year.

I have always had state farm and so has my dad, this spring he hit a deer with his 67 chev pkup(original body on completly restored frame,450hp sbc) he pays $45/year for full coverage up to $15000 with a $250 deducible, the adjuster said they were going to total it out and give him $1500 until he looked at the policy, he then gladly wrote an estimate for all new gm parts and cut him a check for $5800, no questions asked

If you actually want to drive your car when and where you want to, they all suck.

  20. Triple A just insured both our daily drivers & the Plymouth for almost $100 LESS than we were paying for the 2 daily drivers with e-surance!

I use Grundy. They don't care if the vehicle is modified or not. You just pay a premium based upon the agreed value. I used to use Hagerty, but they put a 50% premium increase if your vehicle is modified from stock.

My mom's 58 Bel Air is insured through Hagerty, and I just sent in an application to Grundy for the 50 Buick. I tried to get info from American Hobbyist, but after they didn't call me back for the 3rd time I gave up.

State Farm. I can't tell you what exactly my premium is since I have my house, 1993 Wrangler, 2002 Ducati, 1972 Porsche 911, 1958 Fairlane, and a couple scooters all rolled into one. Payment is around $170 a month for all. Multi-car discount helps too.

Hagerty...and they're great. My car was hit and totalled during Cruising the Coast here in Mississippi last year. They settled for the 'agreed value' ($20K) with no questions asked. I bought the car back from them for $2700 out of the settlement.
