I was checking out a 41 ford cab at a swap meet last week, and the guy wanted 450 bux for it,then an older gent, walked up to me and said he had a 36 chevy with fenders, grill, and hood, minus engine , tranny, and bed for the same price.. i asked him if he could hold it till payday and he agreed, i went to pick it up and see it for the first time last night... still not sure what way I will go with it, but here she is....
yes, half way thru 36 , chevy came out with the low roof. it had considerably less wood than the high roof, just the hinge pillars and cross piece behind the dash. i have had a low roof since 79 and i am glad to see they are becoming popular. they are much better looking than the fords and dodges. nice score skyrodder. i paid 125 dollars, a trashed chavy block and a garbaged picked lawn mower for mine in 79. you dont get deals like that anymore. mike
I picked up a '46 cab that will probably no doubt replace mine as far as building goes, but I still like the looks of these trucks. They don't have a "stepped" firewall, and look alot better than most other trucks of the era when they go fenderless.
did one 20+ years ago. the guy that was restoring it replaced the cab with a 37'. compare yours with a 37' and you will be shocked how much they improved. good luck.
I have a '37, and its all steel on the inside. Earlier models had the body reinforced with wood, which by now...is kinda like cardboard. I bought a pretty decent '33 Chevy tudor cowl that was like that. Sheetmetal looks great.
