100 MPH + in old steel, who's done it?

on the way back from paso last year i got the 32 up to 115, it wasnt so bad untill i let off and the car moved around alot.

 

Does this count?
I know it's old glass but I had my 62 vette up to where the speedo needle was bouncing around at 110 on a straight flat 2lane in the panhandle of OK. There was so much air under the car that is was damn near floating, scary shit but Maggie wanted me to go faster. I chickened out.

Full fendered 28A roadster (yep it's all steel) ZZ4 +700R4 ....80mph @ 2000rpm....red lines at 6300....had it to 155mph on the speedo.
Did it once won't be doing it again...

 

Thanks to the Gearheads, two years back on the way to Paso I did atleast 100mph.. I didn't have a speedo..never have actually. I knew I was goin fast, but was thrilled to hear from Rex that I had pushed 100. I was in a 28 29 roadster, basically a hopped up death trap, and as you know 100 in a roadster is night and day from doin 100 in lets say a rice burner. I live for those moments. Yippee, think I'll give it another try this year.

 

Had my 63 1/2 Galaxie pegged at 130. I know I was going faster but that was as far as the needle went. Man that car at that speed felt like it was sucking to the ground and ran Soooo smooth. Got it airborn once with a car full of foriegn exchange students. Looked in the rear view mirror and they were all floating up in the roof of the car. Guess nobody had their seatbelts fastened. Bet they still remember that one.

Always sounds like the next guys story is better. Quite a few years ago when I was in my 40's a local teenage girl said her dad infered I was full of shit when I said my 32 Ford 5 window would top 150mph so I took her out for a ride and proved it. She has never forgot that ride.

Never been over 75 in my coupe. That's the top number on the speedometer.

 

99.5 on the strip in my 38 Chevy sedan and well over a ton on the highway!

 

did 125 in my '50 chevy pickup on bias plies and a loose steering box. Used to do some stupid stuff

 

Don't know how accurate it was, but a couple of times I pegged the speedometer on my '68 Nova 350 SS at 120 on the back roads of Fort Jackson, SC. I'd just returned from RVN and was invincible (and dumb)

 

Did 115 in the '57 before the engine ran out of gas. Chrysler mill was pulling it down quicker than the cheap electric pump could bring it. Probably for the best, the steering was starting to get a little light

 

Approx. 130 mph on the Trans Canada Hwy in my 396 powered T-bucket. There was more throttle but the windshield glass was starting to bend and my survival instincts took over.
Fastest I got the '48 Chevy pickup was right around 100 mph, and I've had the Essex up to about 95. Not very fast at all.

every time i get on the hwy i have to kick the essex up to 100 at least once for kick

 

We didn't quite hit a hundred. But in this thing it was like going 200. All 1300llbs and 53 hp. We have been a little over 90 in "Junior" Here we are at 70+ around Atlanta Motor Speedway 80 yr old iron on 4.5" wide tires. What a rush!!!

ive had my 34 p/u over a buck a few times.

my speedo doesnt work in my 32 coupe but im sure its been close too.

last year in the way to johnycola's i think we averaged about 85 in my coupster most of the way there.

they run so smooth then!

I had mine up to 98 mph. and it was "SCARY FUN"..

 

120 many times. Even through the Mt Baker tunnel in Seattle.B

My 53 XK120 is geared a little short for top speed runs..guess limited to 130 at 6000 rpm. I have had it over 110..but didn't feel the need for more as it gets there very quickly...and WE are both over 55 years old..

I had a 64 XKE that would show 150 on the speedo..probably inaccurate but quite fast..never found anything that would stay with it. Very stable at that speed..

I have had 'vettes..but I usually had them geared so short..top speed wasn't great...but they are plastic..

 

120 plus on a regular basis in my 26.

 

Scariest ride I ever had was riding with a friend of mine over the Cajon Pass in 1952 in the fog, at night,down the middle lane of a three lane road at 80 miles an hour

If you have ever driven the old Cajon pass you know what it is.

I Got a ticket for 105+ reckless driving in my 1930 coupe. Two cops pulled me over 5 miles from where They said I was clocked by a different cop.......I deserved it..... they where amazed. Judge got a good laugh out of it. I plead not guilty and applied for deferal. Im off probation now.....Im making it faster....with seatbelts..... I guess I learned my lession.

don't know about the platte flats but i've been on the funk-oddessa freeway at well over 100.
the speedo was pretty blurry but pegged.
good thing a cop was driving
been over a 100 in my 48 chevy coupe, rear end was getting "light".
think it might need a bit of a spoiler...naw......

 

Like many of you I've been 100 plus mph in many cars and cycles that I can't remember which one was which.What I do remember is vehicles that wouldn't go 100 mph no matter how long you floored it.That would be in the mid 1960's in a variety of stock 6 cylinder vehicles,about 90 was top speed of any of them.56 ford 292 with a 3 speed topped out at just shy of 100.

 

I got my just wired and running 37 out on the interstate for a blast / leak check after a string alignment back in 04. Just a windshield, two bolted down seats but no other glass or upholstery. Made 120 easy before I got chicken - as it started tracking on it's own. How dumb was that? Only been there a couple times since but it is nice to know I can ifn I want to. But 85 all day long is doable ifn your walet is fat enough.

Don't have a speedo in my A roadster, but I've had the tacho reaching 4 000 rpm in 4th gear. 2 000 rpm seems to be around 60 mph, so it should be 120 mph.

Pretty interesting experience, and I'm not sure my bias plys were entirely comfortable with it. Thankfully there was no traffic, a wide road and very few curves.

A year later I tried to relive the moment resulting in a cracked piston. My caddy 390 seems to frown upon revving, or there are some really cheapo pistons in it (or a combination of both )

 

My '51 chevy tops out in the low 90s (not sure exactly what the speed is my cousin was following me and his speedo only read to 85, he was burrying the needle and couldn't keep up). I'm about to switch to bigger tires so I'm hopping it'll jump on 100. Either way 90 < myspeed < 100 was still pretty awesome.
