Keep Dragracing alive in Holland(Europe) we need your vote and support

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by basezum, May 10, 2007.

  1. Dragracedr88.nl is now official online! We need your help:cool:

The site is in Dutch and English! here some more information.

Holland is a small country, we have only one Dragstrip.
This strip is located in Drachten, in the northern part of Holland.
Its normally in use as a local airport for business and hobby planes.
Last Year the City Council and Major of Drachten gave a company the assignment to clean the Airstrip. This was done 3 days before the last event of the year. The company used chemicals that disintegrated the tar, and destroyed the surface of the strip. This Resulted in a major defect to the surface, and the race had to be cancelled unfortunately.
After this major mistake, Explosion filed a complaint to the City Council and Major. The two party’s are not on speaking terms anymore, at least not in a public way.

So we need you to vote! Please help us!!!

The site is owned, and run by volunteers and people who love the sport! The site is payed for by private and corporate sponsors.

Dont let Dutch Dragracind die pleease:eek:

    I've voted.
I would also like to ask everyone on here to support this. Just imagine if your local drag racing strip was to close!
Well...this is the ONLY one in Holland. There is no other places only in other countries. They need your support and it won't take you much time.
    Thanks
    Mel

It's about an hour's drive from Drachten to Elspeet.

    Maybe some pics might help to get some 'perspective' on things in our tiny country;

Here's a Google-map of the airstrip in question: Click Here
    It's a little over a half-mile stretch of asphalt, where Dragrace-club "Explosion" holds (only) 3 three-day race-events every year.
At the moment, it's the only location in the Netherlands where a 'full-scale' race-event can be held.

    Aerial-photo during a race-event...

Here are some dragrace actionpics of July 2006, the last dragrace just before the 'trouble started' on the strip....

After the "cleanup" ordered by the City-council, parts of the track looked like this...

So the following race-event had to be cancelled becasue of this. This was last year and as of today, there's unfortunatly still no sight of if, or when, there will be another dragrace in Drachten.

Some 'forum-period' correct pics of cars at the strip.. ;)

I voted. Being danish, a regular asphalt strip is just not something you find in your backyard, or generally anywhere but in air strips. So more european strips nearby couldn't be better!

    Good luck guys!

In '87, me and a couple of buddy's went there.

I hydroplaned all the way over there, changed tires and put open exhaust on my Abarth, and made a couple of passes.

My low 17, high 16sec times were even good enough for a couple of win's...( a wet track, the great equaliser...)

Granaded the diff in my car, which ment a long trip home at the end of a rope...

    That was a fun day.:D

I hope you guys get this situation sorted out...
