I'm working on a 62 falcon 2dr. Getting ready for the body/floor work. Plan to go mild custom... already dropped 3" all around. Basically have it all planned out except the replacement for the 144 6banger. I love the way straight 6s look, but I definitely a fan of v8 power. Not sure of the budget will allow for a badass 6 or not.

63 Galaxie ragtop. 390 engine. Haven't gotten around to doing anything on it yet, but it should be a fun summer project...

cool car Nappy- that would be a fun 'shooter' to rip around in...

  7. Here are a few of ours. The '61 Starliner is my father's. It is an original 390-401 hipo car. He had one like it new but this isn't that car. The first car got balled up by his brother in '64....

The '64 Galaxie 500XL is mine. It is an original 390-330 p-code (solid lifter) 4 speed car. I have had it since 1985.

Here is my 64, I just bought it about a month ago. The 390 is pretty worn out and it leaks coolant and oil. Anyone know how easy the motor mounts work if I switched to a 289 or a 302? If I dont get another FE. Wonder what would be easier? I am leaning towards another big block, but 302's are so easy to come by.

I've looked into this swap before, my 63 had a 352 that was a little tired and i always thought it would be great to have a SBF in there. My 64 has a 289/C4, i notice the difference but i like the convenience. If you were to do that swap i would buy a parts car, but with companys like Lokar you can easily run your kickdown, throttle cables etc. I think you could just get rid of your FE motor mounts and get some 302 mounts.

Still gotta put it back together though.

  13. Man, don't ruin that car with a small block!!! Rebuild what you got!! FE pistons are still made and parts are plentiful. If you were closer to MD. I'd put you a nice motor together!!! If you put a fresh 390 in that thing you will be very happy!!!

I agree Brett, 390's aren't hard to come by either since they were in alot of full size cars and almost all the trucks it seems, stick with the 390 you will be happy they are great motors.

It would be easier for the swap to keep an FE, just pull it out and put a new one in. I was just curious how easy the SBF swap would be. You know my buddies in Denver have some wicked SBF's so Im used to seeing them. I do like the image of that car with the original big block in it. Just checkin out my options, no harm in that.

I also have a 66 Galaxie I'm fixing up to give to a buddy. I've always loved the 60 -64 Galaxies best though.

FE Block is way cooler. Especially if you just want a tourqie cruiser.

The small block is a lot lighter though and without a lot of work will make way more power than a 352. The 352 is the unwanted step child in the FE family. If you can find a cheap 390 go for that.

  18. 17,000 miles since I bought it… white interior to come this summer, I hope.

that is really looking good; nice work. How did you lower it? I dropped mine 3" with cut coils and blocks. I believe any lower, I'd have to raise my tunnel and forego any suspension at all.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, had a bunch of tests this week. It's lowered 3" with cut coils and blocks. I may pull a leaf later on down the road, but I don't want to have to start cutting the floor.

64 Bird I've have for about eleven years and a 60 Commuter Amblewagon (Coroner's car) that I've had for eight, every day of which threatens to be the last.

I picked up this '64 at a swapmeet a few weeks ago. Slowly getting it ready to hit the street.

I painted and installed the fenderskirts today, so I thought I'd snap some pics.

I dont mean to bump an old thread, but I'm new here and I just wanted to point out how small the world really is. You got that from Hunter near Sacramento CA. didn't you? I traded cars with him once and when I came to his pad a 2nd time to pick up a chassis that was part of the deal, he just got that wagon. He's a real cool guy with good taste in cars. I wonder what he has now.
