These cars are on this site http://onliner.ws/2007/03/26/roskoshnye_tachki.html I really like them especially the red one. Are they custom built? Who made or built them?
......hmmmmm.....Delahaye? Talbot? aluminum bodies I'll bet....some very interesting stuff on that site. g
The red car is a 1939 Delahaye Type 165 (chassis 60744) was created for the New York World's Fair of 1939. It is the sports version of the Delahaye Type 145 race car and includes a 4.5-liter V-12 engine. Rich
The red one is a Delahaye created for the 1939 Worlds Fair. It's a "Type 165" with a 4.5 litre V12. Coachwork by Figoni & Falaschi. The other is a Delahaye too but I don't know exactly what it is. Looks like the same coach builder. Two were made for the 1939 World's Fair maybe this is the other one.
I don't know about the Delahayes one way or another but there are a lot of beautiful rides on that link. Here are 2 more. What are these?
http://www.conceptcarz.com/view/photo/192128,9217,0,0/photo.aspx Look at this one. The windshield cranks down into the cowl. These thinks just remind me of the old wooden speedboats. Totally bitchin.
Bottom one is a Talbot Lago... The design of them inspired the early Jags. Top is a Custome bodied Benz probably a 540 SSK
The red one is a 1939 Delahaye Type 165. (Note: the hight of the windshield) The blue one is a 1945 delahaye 175 MS Saoutchik. (Note:the "bullet" style nose on the hood)
I think that black Mercedes belongs to Ralph Lauren...... All of those pics were taken at Pebble Beach golf course in Monterey....Concours DeElegance
Delahayes are some of the most beautiful cars...ever. We did a photo shoot on a Talbot once. It was so bitchin to sit in the seat and take it all in. Truly inspiring.
To me at least, many if not most of those old one-off creations for the super rich - when viewed today, which is of course out of context - seem very oddly proportioned and always have some oddity to them that make them a little hard on the eyes. Really, real cool oddities, but still odd. I try to keep in-mind that those guys were inventing the rules as they went - they were the goundbreakers - artists who were exploring a fairly recent media. However, this particular red Delahaye is an exception. To me, it is an absolute masterpiece beyond comprehension. I've seen it in-person and it is ever more so impressive. I cannot think of anything ever created that flows better. It grabs your eyeballs, caresses them and leaves them spent on the ground.
There's quite a few more at http://www.flickr.com/gp/87789817@N00/4GgL8d that I took at Pebble Beach... The Delahaye & Talbot-Lago's are amazing
The Black Mercedes is a 540K Autobahn Kourier restored by our shop for Pebble Beach last year where it won First in Class. It is one of only 2 cars built, and was purchased from the original family about 3 years ago. It is owned by Arturo Keller. Alex www.paulrussell.com
alfin, you guys do some damn incredible work. My father worked for a printing company that did your catolougues a few years back, i still keep it handy to this day.
Alfin, I second ynottayblock's emotion. Unreal work. I'm esspecially gaga for the Count Trossi Benz' and the red Barchetta. I wish I had that kind of day job.
There's a Fiat 8V in the bunch too on the web site. BTW: Fiat chose to call this car the "8V" because they mistakenly thought that Ford owned the rights to "V8".
If you are going to be in Phoenix before june 3, go to www.phxart.org and click on the curves of steel link. They've got some beautiful cars on exhibit there. jerry
