Well my original idea, (being a big block fanatic)
was to muscle a 455 Olds or 500 Cad into the engine
hole, but when my son and i were talking about what paint scheem he'd like, he brought up the fact that he wanted a little rumble from the exhaust and not the low rider, (pea shooter), sound and i said you have have to worry about that with a big block!
Well then he through a curve ball
on me and said he didnt want a big block, he wanted
a six, (like our buddy "Rock shop daves"), with triple 2's and a nice sound.
So my question is.... should i get back
the Chevy six and drop it in, or should i rebuild the six
thats there now. I actually think the original is a good engine
, and just needs a little once over and it will run.
I realize the trannys are junk but i'd adapt a
gm auto to it, but engine power and afficantcy wise
how did they run. I'v got the Super Six. Thanks.

I ran the original six in my '52 Hudson Wasp for years. Mild cam, 2-twos, finned aluminum head, duals all the way back. Sounded mean and the cool factor couldn't be beat!

My Hudson has a 308 in it. If you want a good sound, you can't beat a six. Mine has a Clifford header and Smitty's on it. It really sounds good when I run it up through the gears.

I had the stock tranny and never had any problems. It needed adjusting one time, that was it.

I vote Hudson too. Might be a little biased though...

Check out ucommonengineering.com. He's into BIG horsepower Hudsons. Would you rather be blown or injected? Or both?

    Keep the Hudson, and maybe talk to these guys;

They build some wicked Flathead and Hudson engines.

BTW, can someone please put their blown 10,000rpm, SOHC 3V flattie in something!?

    Hudson.

The Super six is a good motor; pressure lubed; the bolt-ons from the 308 fit. Cam it, headers, and an intake from cliffords will net you a nice torquey motor.

No offense to the bowtie and blig block guys, but any damned fool with a credit card can buy a crate motor with a warranty these days; takes a real rodder to sort out a motor that hasn't been built in over 50 years...just my opinion.

I'm biased tho - gramps worked on Connor street for 26 years.

Thanks guys, i;m going to seriously look into the Hudson rebuild now,and your right "chuckspeed" it would be the easy way out to do a Chevy, and the original would be cooler.

Save the 500 Caddy for your own ride. And buy GM. Hudsons should only have Big Flat sixes.
