http://www.rexfeatures.com/features/516925/ Lots of 'special' body work in this car. It just doesn't get any better than this... r
Thats crazy, I'll admit it I kinda like it. I see alot of different cars in there from just looking at the body, late 50's Plymouth, Corvette, Impala.....definatley a cartoon looking car.
Holy crap. Ouch. I bet it had some "major advances" that were good ideas, but the execution was horrible. Damn.
Andy is a skilled fabricator - his Lancia reproduction should tell you that. Although almost all/most of his work is not HAMB-related, it's still neat. www.andysaunderskustoms.com That car wasn't built for looks, it was safety.
Dude, anyone who says they wouldn't have paid the $1500 asking price for that is a liar. And 2K to ship it to England doesn't seem bad at all. I'd drive it, just for shock value.
This has got the be the ultimate saftey feature , and to think I usually have a hard time remembering to turn loose of the wheel and cross my hands just befoe impact.
lol, good old andy. I'm English and moved to Atlanta in '98, but I hired his Rainbow Chaser volvo for a friends wedding car: http://andysaunderskustoms.freeservers.com/front%20-%20rainbow.htm Good to hear he's still mad.
"This has got the be the ultimate saftey feature , and to think I usually have a hard time remembering to turn loose of the wheel and cross my hands just befoe impact." Crossing your hands? I would think making the cross and saying"Father, Son, Holy Ghost" before impact would be apprpriate given who built it... r
I was thinking more along the lines of not breaking the steering wheel off or wrenching my shoulders (done both) and keeping both arms and hands inside the vehicle at all times. Cab you imagine what would happen to your nose if your weren't done makeing the proper gestures and your hand hit the wheel ( just before your face)? I just can't imagine haveing time to spin around in the seat before you smacked into something. Of course you have to realize I'm the one who forgets to mash the loud peddle when the light turns green.
Considering the actual road miles its clocked in it's life - it probably the safest car ever built. Safe from getting stolen certainly. Can't help thinking that's 12 years he won't get back. He is a very talented fabricator. Mart.
It kind of reminds of Penelopy Pitstop's car from the Wacky Races cartoon , Alot of neat one off fab work.
I wonder what it was about it that made it break down so much. Any idea what chassis and drive train it might have used. I haven't seen any details on it.
Ahhh, sweet mother of all that is holy! Leave it in England! From the web site: "The unique Aurora, a 19 feet long monster that was built by an eccentric New York priest as the ultimate safety vehicle......" "The Aurora was funded partially by Father Juliano's congregation which donated cash to his whacky project....." Goes to show ya, religion and cars dont mix! HaaaHaa, yea I said it!
I think I recall seeing pictures in Collectabile Automobile many years ago of the rotted body as it was found. That car is nothing less than 'unforgetable' at best.
One thing is for sure, its the only one on the road, never see another one like it at a show or cruise in,it deserves the koontail award, however i would have bought it given the chance, its almost kool. Jamie of Dead City MC/CC
