    Hey,

Just chipping in my 2 pennies.

I noticed that you're from Davenport, FL. I suggest you move to Davenport, IA. Then all you have to remember is the Iowa part... :) (I'm sure the climate will tip you off)

To put the kidding aside - and not to convince you to move here, just to inform you about our area - we have a reputation as a very friendly community. Most out of towners comment on the fact that you can still get a wave or a nod of the head when walking about...

We have lot's of room and the neighbors will leave you alone.

In the Quad City area the job market is damn good.

$150,000 will get you a big ass house (3-4 BR & 2 bath usually in the 1500-2000 sq. ft. range)

    Taxes are average.

The food is good (fresh fruit/veggie markets all over the damn place).

Traffic is mild - 2 to 3 hours of driving will get you halfway through the state rather than just across town - as I have found the norm in cities like St. Louis and Chicago!!

Gas prices are usually lower than lots of places.

If ou like outdoor activities they are EVERYWHERE. Hunting, fishing, camping, dirtbike riding, and whatever else you can think up....

If your a biker we have no helmet laws (yet) so you can still feel the wind in your face.....

    ...what else?

Well I don't know how schools are now - it's been awhile since I checked - but Iowa WAS one of the highest ranked in aptitude testing nation wide (when I was in school anyways...I think we've been letting a few other states slip in ahead of us recently.)

And even if they aren't holding the top honors anymore the schools here are much more safe. There is still the normal stuff - drugs, alcohol and (small-time) gangs....but in comparison...well jeez - it's IOWA fer christ sakes....

Bring your appetite - we're fat!! (inside joke)

    Well,

I live in Utah (no Mormon jokes here! Not one, by the way)-I was raised in Colorado (Golden, in the shade of Coor's Brewery!)-I like the Mountain West, B-E-A-utiful place to live, but most of Colorado is getting expensive. Great Folks in Utah, and a moderate Car scene. Housing Values on the rise, as well as Rents (for those who need it-I was able to raise my Rental Rates last year). Lots to do if you like the Outdoors (Fishing, Skiing, Camping, Whitewater Rafting, etc.). Taxes aren't too bad, outlying areas aren't too expensive (if you like the Mountains), but there are a lot of idiot Drivers here-

I've lived on the same street for all of my 56 years, chances of moving are real slim, hell I still have stuff stored up the street in the house I grew up in. More yuppie assholes than anyother place tearing down the "undervalued" houses and building McMansions, they can't afford to furnish. If I had to move New Hampshire would be the place to go.

I'm not from Texas BUT, got here as fast as I could !

I've been all over USA ..
piedmont area of the smokey mountains
is very nice, scenic .. Blue Ridge area of north Georgia

Only other place I would really enjoy ..

Lived in Northern Minnesnowda for 13 years .. Jeez, was I happy to leave 11 months of snow, 1 of bad sledding , skeeters as big as b-52's

July and August here are on "warm' side but otherwise not bad

8 years and I am kind of used to that ..

Texas is a big state so it varies greatly in what area you live in

    Hill Country is awesome !

I'm sure you've done your homework, but some advice from a local, stay away from Northside 1604 between 1h10 and 281N. it is really nuts there right now, traffic is insane..Look in the Castroville, Rio Medina area..my place is on the southside out by the Toyota plant and I'm gettin the heck outta there.....

Ventura Ca is paradise, cruise nights weekly, close to a ton of big car shows. 4 hours from Viva. The drive to Billetproof and northern shows is beautiful. Best weather anywhere. Surf in the morning drive 35 minutes and be in snow. Wish they all could be California girls!

On the downside, EXPENSIVE everything, cant rent an apartment for less than 1000 bucks. Cheapest houses in the mid 400's. DMV is an adventure every time you have to go. Traffic sux and everything is crowded.

    But I love it here.

Lived in Des Moines for three years and NEVER want to endure another brutal midwest winter! The annual Halloween blizzard, ice and snowstorms in May, and January/February temps that never go above freezing were just too much for me to take!

Other than that, everything else was nice, especially in the smaller towns.:)

I personally think that off all the places I have visited.....asside from places outside the US (there are MANY places outside the US that are underrated) West Virginia is the most underrated state.

I moved to L.A. 13 years ago and I love, love, loved it for the first few years. Now things and also me, have changed. Traffic is nuts, house prizes are out of control, just too many people here, for me.
I love my house and the car scene is just awesome but I also do alot of travelling, been all over the world and have seen places that might be better for me.
I'm kind of leaning towards a Caribbean island or Costa Rica perhaps in the future.

    ...could be worse.

I have a friend who was originally from Alaska.

He said that Summer in Alaska was just a bad day to ice fish...

...you might have to read it twice to get the joke - it's all in the delivery (which is hard to do by typing).

WV... a mix of good and bad:

Beautiful state, low crime, little traffic problems, good people, lots of cruize-ins, neighborhood schools, low taxes... but lots of them.

Weather is terrible except for about 4-6 weeks/year. Summer is hot and humid; winter from about Dec-March is very gray and gloomy - very little sunshine (wife says it's like looking at life on a black and white TV). Roads around the larger towns are full of potholes. The people are good people but very clannish and suspicious until you get to know them. The car people keep their cars in garages and when you go to a cruize-in, they all sit around behind their cars in lawn chairs and talk about everyone else's flaws.... I don't do them or local car shows either because of that wierd behavior. Work is hard to get. The neighborhood school thing is nice but you'll want to be selective when choosing a neighborhood - some are very poor socioeconomic areas. There are some good colleges and universities but most folks don't attend. Corrupt government that's not capitalizing on the good the state has to offer.

Would I recommend coming here? No. When my 88 year-old mom passes, we'll probably bolt...hoping for South FL in the winter and the NW in the summer!!... why not go for the best of both worlds!!??

    God Bless Texas.

If I was kicked out of Texas, I'd probably check out Caffeine's street. Sounds pretty perfect, except I don't think I could handle the cold.

Only 1 Canuk reply so I thought I would chime in how much I despise the Shithole the Ottawa area has become.... need to speak french or be a visable minority to get any kind of govt job in the Capital City of this country....way too much political crap here...u get fed govt...provincial govt ...and the fukin looney left wing socialist faggots that run the city here.I used to live outta town away from alot of the city BS but the city amalgomated us,which means increased our taxes and reduced our services ,just so we could be a part of the "new" bloated city of Ottawa .Its too bad cause I was born her almost 42 yrs ago and now I despise the shithole. We are movin to Alberta ,out west which I suppose in a lotta ways would be considered as Canada's Texas with snow of coarse lol.Real different live an let live attitude out there great economy tons of jobs no provincial sales tax and lotsa old cars that have survived in the dry climate, and best of all you dont have to speak fukin French to feed yer family!!! I brought two loads of stuff and a couple of my project cars out to the inlaws last summer, the house goes on the market next week ,after a year of reno since I got laid off, and as soon as it sells were outta this dump. The only thing I will miss is some of my gearhead buddies and my brother.

Ahh that little rant makes me feel better lol!!!

I have a buddy that lives in Atascadero. He loves it there. I would move there but I need to be near a large city. I am a Union Ironworker. Are there any good welding/fabrication jobs there?

my first few months....we had a big snow storm...I had 1 shovel..and have a BIG driveway....I woke up, and went out to shovel....I see 3 neighbors snowblowing the WHOLE streets sidewalks and driveways....like a freaking team....

So I take my shovel and walk around doing everyones steps.....the single females or widows on the street made coffee and hot chocolate........

my father came through and dragged all the snowbanks out to the end of the street with a snow plow.....it ruled...i have some pictures somewhere....

It was like a fucking normal rockwell painting.....I tell ya.

I live in Greenville SC. I love it! The NASCAR big boys test all the time right across the street from my business. I can be in the Mountains in an hour or so and at the beach in 4 hours. Lot's of racing all around as well as a few hot rod shops and drag car builders too.

Amen! Just like Toronto only without the Federal Goverment.
Actually, I'm in a town outside of T.O. Good place to raise kids, great schools, safe beyond imagination, healthcare is good unless you need it, lots of car buddies but too friggin' cold.
