I don't know why everyone likes to bitch about the "goldchainers" at the auction. It seems to me that there are a lot of "deals" out there. Most of the hot rods go WAY below the build cost. Most of them aren't anything I would want to own though.

Yeah, some of the musclecars are outrageous in price but if it is a super rare car that someone has taken good care of all of its life then it oughtta be worth something shouldn't it?

I liked the Lincoln convertible that went for 100 grand last night. uncle Scoob oughtta be proud! I could only imagine the bill to have all of that chrome and stainless redone.

I totally agree on 2 points made in this thread. 1. As car people, you've gotta love seeing all of those beautiful cars rolling across that floor. Whether it be muscle cars, hot rods or street rods. You can't deny how beautiful some of those are. And 2. It has DEFINITELY taken your average joe with some mid 70's, 4 door piece of shit car think he's got a goldmine in his garage.

I can't say that if I didn't have a multi-million dollar car budget, that I wouldn't be swayed to buy a car from there. To those people, 100k is nothing. That would be like 20 bucks to us. Plus for them its an investment. They'll hang on to it for a few years, show it to their friends, and it will be back on the block before you know it for at least 10% more than what he/she paid for it.

B-J, well known for top quality cars sold at top quality prices to people who don't know any better.

How many here would to kick the crap out of Ferrari Hat?

Last night there was a 1966 6cylinder Mustang (I own one is why I cared) sold for $6k. It was worth $3k at best. Ripped interior, unrestored engine compartment, quicky paint job with overspray everywhere. Guess I need to take my (much better) '66 6cylinder out there next year.

That's a car auction? I thought it was the annual meeting for the More Money Than Brains Club. Hell, Scotty Grey is there every year and so is Boyd. And that little guy wearing that silly Ferrari hat. and that weird guy with the funny colored jackets that are different colors to match each of his cars...

That car had a history behind it, it was owned by the guy who named the Mustang. Probably doesn't mean much to most people but Mustang fanatics would probably love to have it with the history attatched. And where are you finding nice driver '65 or '66 Mustangs for 3K? The seats were tore up and the chrome was worn a bit but the paint looked fine to me, even without the little history bit I can't see that being only a 3K car. Repop Mustang seat covers and bumpers are ultra cheap, that's all it really needed. Plus it had A/C on it. Having a functional A/C unit installed on any old car is probably a 2K plus thing.

About the yellow lincoln . On several of the previous shows the announcers have stated that ownership transfers as soon as the gavel falls, period, no matter what happens. So I guess the dude owned it for about 40 seconds before somebody fucked it up for him.

  18. I watched last nite, very interesting. :mad:Something they didn't show was the owners of the billet rods committing suicide when their cars sold prices in the 30's and the cost to build was way over 50k. Plus they had to pay 8% consignment fee, and the costs to get there....
Early in the show there were 2 rodded pickups (very nice looking rides) that went for way below the cost to build.
The muscle cars, that's a whole different story....[IMG]

Surely the auction house has insurance for incidents like the yellow lincoln, cause if you process enough cars, something will get damaged.

For everyone who complains about how the gold chainers are paying too much- How many project cars have you turned a profit on? Most guys lose their ass when a project is sold, how is that any different than paying too much for a finished car?

You both loved the car and you both lost your ass, gold chain or not.

BTW, other than that Steve "Magneto" guy, those announcers are tools.

I dont know about you guys, but for my dad and I this is our superbowl. We will watch it, bitch at it, call our buddies on it all week. Its like one of those bad reality shows where you deny watching it but still do.

What I cant stand are the 'recreation' cars...hello they are fakes and will always be fake! Oh and the over use of the word custom...can't we just call them drivers or street rods or somthing like that!

Sorry but the quality of cars there sucks. I've seen some of these cars after the auction and man they aren't the best quality. There's a lot more to a car then paint, graphics and leather.

Not sure why guy's with street rods with no big show wins (AMBR/Ridler type) or a big name builder (Boyd/Chip) try to sell there. From what I've seen of the show, it's all about the muscle car collectors and a couple museums buying prototypes, and one of a fews. The rest of the stuff is "filler" and resales. I heard a guy from here with a rod that had been bid to about 75k at a local auction was turned away from this auction a few years ago because they had more streetrods than they wanted already.

I was watching lastnight and there was a father/son build Mopar that was about to sell. Did I miss it or did anyone else see or hear how it sold? Just thought it would make a cool story if it did well.

Some of you guys made a very good point.

I went to BJ in Palm Spring$$ and the real car quality was far from what it looked like on TV when we watched the tape at home. Scratches, nicks and worn upholstry do not show real well on TV. Let the buyer beware is the best motto.

Hell they had a 4 door Model A sedan with a whacked off roof and called it a phaeton. It still brought $17k and it was not real pretty in person but looked better on tape.

I would NEVER buy a car there if I had not done my due diligence first. Nuff Said.

That said, we do love to watch the cars and the idiots they draw. 18% not a bad gig.

I tried to watch this last nite but it seemed to me like they auctioned 4 cars then had 5 commercials. I'm gonna try it again tonite maybe with the sound off to see if it is more interesting. Oh well at least Allan Englishprick isn't on anymore. I also have to agree with plowboy Brock Yates should stick to the printed word where he can double check his facts before he puts them out.
