Here's a whole list of them; 5 pages worth with pics.

I noticed Chuck-a-Burger from St. Louis is on there. Never ate there, but they used to sponser a yellow '57 Chevy that ran at Wentzville's MAR Nostalgia Drags every year. Looks like they have a red one now. Wonder if its the same car?

vals in hayward/castro valley(sf bay area) nice review:
I love this place. Around they bay area theres no other like it. From the outside it looks like ALs resturaunt from Happy Days the T.V. show. You can tell that Vals has withstanded the test of time. Inside so many photos of popular patrons, hot rod cars and prize plaques or statues for having such great food. My favorite sandwiches are the Poppa Burger (1 full pound of ground beef) or the Ranch Steak sandwich. They make it how ever you like it, I like medium rare. A little cheddar cheese and lettuce with A-1 sauce and I am in heaven. With a order of fries and a real milk shake made from real ice cream. I say MMMMMMMM, good. Hands down the best burger you can ever have, and the best meal. You can do to go orders too.The only thing I dislike is its not open 7 days a week so if I want it on a Sunda y or Monday I can't have it. The waitresses are pretty prompt and friendly too.(They deserve the tips)
and Duffy's Tavern at the presidio in Monterey, Ca

I see you're from KY. Please tell me you've been to Parkette in Lexington. Good food, good atmosphere, and impromptu cruise-ins on Friday nights. If any HAMBer's happen to be passing through Lexington on I-75 or I-64(like on the way to the Nat's or to Pigeon Forge) Parkette is a must.

I'm dying for some real BBQ by the way.

    Bob,
I notice that you had The Hat in there, There are nine other locations throughout the southland.#1 In Alhambra is the coolest, cuz that's another joint that had been slated for demo, was saved & now the owner has #2 In Monterey Park,#3 In Pasadena,#4 In Upland,#5 In Temple City,#6 In Glendora(Rt66),#7In Brea,#8 In Simi Valley,#9 In Lake Forest & The Newest Hat #10 In Rancho Cucamonga. Great Pastrami as well as chili burgers.
Not too shabby for a placed that was doomed to the wrecking ball!

Jim's Drive In Rosmead, Great Charbroiled Burgers as well as great service!! Just remodeled (was used in The Wonder Years TV Show) lost is cool late 50's look, better indoor seating now & user friendly for families.(I miss the Ol School look though).
Farmer Boys in Irwindale (2 locations) It's a chain but but makes damn good burgers!!!

They got a kickass steak sandwich too, but it's been awhile since I was in there. Todd & John's is pretty good also, to bad the socialist city council banned smoking in the city.

  12. In Morehead City there's El's Drive-in. Its been there since the 50's. Only place around with real curb service. Home of the shrimp-burger and the oyster-burger. The only drive-in I know of that will deliver beer to your car. Awesome food.

in lake city colorado the tic toc diner (which is now encased in a new building) has really good food. if you're in lake city you're either cruizin' or lost.

not burgers, but in louisville go to Impellizzeri Pizza on bardstown road.

the blue goose cafe is a "regular mom & pop" restaurant in fennville, michigan, that has really good food.

The Cameo Grill in Massillon, OH. I love their burgers. I think it is the best burger you can get around here at least. And Junkyard Jan--there is a white castle on Arlington Rd on the southside of Akron if you are ever in the neighborhood. The smell of that place alone does me in.....

Didn't see it mentioned yet. In Austin, TX : Casino El Camino (on 6th street) they make a MEAN ass burger. They take forever to make it but the place is a BAR that has a dark ambiance, and it is well worth the wait. Second to that I'd have to say Hut's in Austin is a definate close #2 they offer buffalo meat patties or Longhorn patties for a buck or so more...on a side note they own the pizza/italian place next door Frank & Angies which is pretty good as well...no Homeslice pizza but pretty good....but that is a whole other thread entirely

Any Dick's Drive-In located in the Puget Sound area. Great burgers, great shakes, REAL 'made right there in front of your face' french fries, and pretty good prices. No carhops, no inside (or outside) seating - get it and sit in your car and watch the world go by.

First Dick's burger place I ate at was on Capitol Hill - Broadway Ave...burger was 19¢...prices have gone up - but the quality remains the same. Whenever I get back in town, that's my first stop for lunch (second is Ivar's, but that's O/T).

    Ed's place in TAYLOR TEXAS!

Coldest Lonestar longnecks in the state!

David bought this place from his dad "Ed" back in the 70's... sold it once... the guy he sold it to sucked, so he bought it back and it's been in full swing ever since. I think this place has been around since the early 50's and hasn't changed one bit. It's a dark little cave in there but it's got the best service around and the jukebox is full of the best classic country and rock n' roll.

He's got some old International stuff to boot.

Yup, Hut's is number 1 for me in Austin, but I haven't been to Casino El Camino yet... i've been dying to try it.

And you're right... Homeslice is just a whole 'nother thread... simply the best pizza in Texas. They were cool enough to let me park my Willys pickup in the "No Parking" zone next to the walk up order window, Saturday night at the Roundup.

DJ's in Rio Dell gets my vote. The resturant itself has been around since at least the late '60's that I know of, and is a true Mom and Pop and the kids place. They serve great burgers at reasonable prices and have Wednesday nite car nites a couple times a month during the summer months. They also have one BIG party in late July/early August where they have a barbeque, a band and they close off the street for more parking. Two thumbs up for any business supporting cars!
