I need some insight on small wheels, heavy cars & safety.
I've got a cheap deal pending on some 14 x 6 wheels for my land yacht, but I'm kind of questioning the size & weight.

    1959 olds 98.
factory weight 4500 (+ a few in bondo)
    factory wheels 14 x 9
    thanks in advance

No way are the factory wheels 14x9. I'd bet any money the factory wheels are 14x6. But that's not the point.

The size of the wheels you're going to use isn't so important as the construction of the wheels and the load rating of the tires you use. What wheels do you want to use and what tires do you plan to run on them?

Also, any pics of the car? I like Olds's.

The top pic is a '60.
You see more '60's than '59 and '61 COMBINED.
To me, '59-'61 Olds were just the coolest of the GM's for those years!

That's good to know for my '64 98. Where did you buy your wheels? I've heard there's two different brands.

    Thanks in advance

Nope they didn't come with 14x9's mine were about 6 or so inches wide. Rims should be fine, it's the tires that'll play a big part. You runnin balogna skins or some fatty whitewalls?? g78x14 are perfect for the olds, that's what I run, still room to tuck up in the fender well when you got a crowd of 8 in there with you... and i've done it!!

Olds 98 is larger than the Impala sized 88.

98, Roadmaster, and Sedan DeVille are based on the same chassis, so they're bigger, and they have the bigger lug pattern.

  13. I think I'd try and make it look less like a skateboard and go with the 15" supremes.

Yeah, but the price is right for my budget right now....dirt cheap.
Maybe I'll throw some 15's on just the back first to see how that sits.
...anything will beat the corvette wheels & mis-mathched tires I have.
The engine & brakes are priority right now.

My '61 Dynamic 88 also had the larger bolt pattern....5x5.....

Mr. Jones.....the photoshop version looks SPOT ON!
    SWEET car.......

  16. I parted out a 60 Olds flat-top and it had 14x6 wheels. Just look at the load rating of the tires you plan to buy and make sure they meet your car weight. Since you are going low-budget for now, I assume you are going to get cheap radials. I think anything about size 215 and up would have plenty of safety margin.

BTW, anyone need some 14x6 Olds wheels, cheap?

Thanks man, I was pretty specific when Mike (4t64rd) photoshopped it, I think this was the 3rd shot.
    He rules.

38chevy454 I got some freebee 225 radials today, thanks again.
