Don't forget to thank a Vet Jack Mumma U.S.M.C Vietnam Vet 1968-1969 DaNang & Marble Mtn. 1st. Mar. Div. VMA 242
40 years ago today I landed in San Fran on a freedom flight from DaNang. 405th tac ftr wg. 13th bomb squad. Veteran's Day has always been special to me.
I told my students that there would be a parade today and that it would be a good thing if they showed up. Further, I told them that some of the guys in the parade would look like frail old men, but that they are not; they are giants disguised as frail old men. The only reason we have our freedoms are because these men sacrificed beyond measure. I was honored to stand on the curb as they passed. Major, USAF, Retired 1974-1994 Hercules Pilot
Dad served in Japan in'45. Brother-in-law recruites for Army National Guard. Many served proudly, many lost much. We are indebted to you. Thanks for your sacrifices , God bless you and God bless the U.S.A.
weather was dismal on saturday for out veteran's day parade, but it was the largest in size i have seen, and one of the biggest in terms of attendants as well. the vets, of course, snapped to salute when the flag went by. i removed my hat and put my hand over my heart, not near enough people did that, but i guess their hearts were in the right place for attending in crappy weather... my school did a veteran's day program that involved inviting any veterans from the students' families that wanted to come. knowing that i have a pretty sizeable collection, some of the other teachers enlisted my help for their "museum" and "fashion show (their wording, not mine)." we had almost 20 kids in uniform, including 3 of my WWII combat uniforms and two of my dress uniforms. i wore my WWI uniform for it, and i think it was an awesome thing to see all of these uniforms filled out. kids behaved great, they even lined up at attention after walking past the crowd. i think the vets and the entire middle school enjoyed it. here's to the vets.
