61 super 88 value

    just found a 61 super 88 fordor hardtop,seems at one point to have been a mild custom,its razor straight ,no rust ,factory ac, killer custom interior,some vintage chrome one the motor(seems original) and it just turned 65000 miles been sitting for about 10 years so the paint is faded but its one fine lookin automobile any idea what something like this goes for should be easy to get running and the guy wants 2500 it .....decent deal or no???????

  5. If been sitting ten years, figure it needs the whole brake system gone through, gas tank and fuel system flushed clean. The engine was probably not stored correctly and should be careful. Do a compression test for a quick analysis of the engine. Assume the trans will needs some work, it will leak for sure as the seals will have shrunk up. May or may not be a big problem, but since it does not run now, you have to assume the worst.

    A 61 is not as desireable as a pre-61, but can be a cool car. Go with cash in several pockets, even some in a friend's pocket. Show cash under the seller's nose and see how serious he wants to get rid of the car.

    If the engine seems OK, it is probabkly a fair price.

    Yeah, if it runs and moves, the asking price is pretty fair in my book. If he hasn't had it running yet, ask if you can try to get it started. Better to hear it run than to find out it's junk later on.
