I have a 350 Olds with a unisex 350 in storage waiting for the right project.

  8. Long story, but I ended up with a rebuilt olds 350 from my father-in-law and will probably use it in a future project.

  9. I'm running a buick 455 in my 46 chevy.

i am thinking of running a olds 455 in my 30 model a coupe. getting the engine from a friend. says it is a 35k mile engine out of a 1968- 70 car. has trans to.

is the trans worth using or should i look for somthing diffrent. want to run a 5 speed but have to find an addaptor.

i tend to stick with the big block olds...but the 350s got a bore/stroke combo...tempted to do one up, so i can harass my buddies that swear by the sbc

keep us posted on a coupe with the 455..i had these same thoughts about a 31 pickup with a big olds

two 750 on that tunnel ram, what else in that animal to support 2 750s

I've got a 455 olds and muncie 4 speed left over from a previous build that is going into my '37 chevy truck project. I'm almost done with a 8x2 intake for it, which should make it even more unique! I'll post some pics of the lake-style headers I am building for it next time I make it out to the garage with the camera.

This summer a buddy and myself unsiezed his grandpas 1970 delta 88 that had been sitting for about 15 years. Fired it up, filled the tires, couple brakes lines, and did one continuous burnout for the rest of the summer. 500 foot pounds stock with a 2 barrell can make that car move pretty good. Box those frames!

  16. I'm running a warmed up 455/th400 in my 55 Caddy. I figured a fat bastard like that needed a torque monster like that. A belly button motor would have been easier/cheaper but not "right". I already had the olds otherwise it would have been a 500 Cad

I had an olds 455 in my '59 chevy p/u till it spun the bearing, and did you know noone but, "Moneybags Mondello", is the only one that reproduces a crank anymore!? If i'm wrong please correct me so that i may be steered in the right direction, cause i aint buyin one of his (solid gold), cranks!
A buddy of mine has two that he'll let go for
500.00 that i think i'll pickup and part out the rest, (some brand new parts in one). Anyway, those things stock even,....ROCK!

  19. I bought a '69 Toronado just for the C-head 455. Set up, but I put some stuff in it, need to find a socket for the bolt on the balancer or else stick a battery in the car -

Who knows, I'd swap it for a Pontiac, but from what I've read it's worth hanging onto even if I just stick it in the car hauler truck I bought -

  21. The Vanderveldes friends of mine have several 455 olds powered vehicles. first was a 74 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 . I built the engine , they had the trans case from the olds put in place of the original chevy case on the FWD unit. Bolted it in with Diesel mounts. They had a decal made saying 455SS. Truck is was sold but is still running almost 15-16years later
Next we did a 455 and installed it in place of the 4100 in jakes 86 caddy coupe de ville. he has since made it into a roadster and drives it still . it was built in 1990 (My motor also)
Then his youngest son Darren did a 56 GMC and I did a hopped up 455 for it. it was featured in Canadian Clasics last month but they inadvetantly called it a 55. Someone may have the magazine. It is the Corvette yellow truck.
Then Jake V did a 57 caddy and called me for yet another 455 hop up. They are a good strong engine, make excellamt power and give zero nichts nada trouble. I prefer the 455 over the 350 personally. It is just a lot tougher . It is i believe the highest torque production engine at 500 FT lb in stock trim. It is a very practical engine for Hot Rod use and doesnt get the credit it deserves. I am a Mopar man so if i tell you this it is true not GM Prejudice.I am surprised there are not more of them out there.

    got a question for ya.

i have decided after reading this post to run the 455 olds on my 30 coupe. i already have a 40 ford rear for the car, brakes all done wheels i want to run. will this rear handle the power form the big block. Seems to me that it would.... once. then i would be replacing it . any help would be great
    thanks

29AROD.....not sure how much power a 40 ford rear can handle , might not handle it especially if you have a heavy foot....might make an interesting new thread...

I'd be thinking of a '57/64 Olds rear if you want to keep it old Olds. I've seen '40 rears go away with stock 283's.

    Here's mine,
It's a .40 over, 1971 455, XE294 Comp Cam, Iron G heads 2.07 intake/1.71 exhaust valves, a little port work, 200R4 trans, 3500 stall, 9" converter, 3.73 rear.......11.69 ET @ 112 MPH....... I believe I have about 4 more tenths I can get out of this current set up with some jetting and timing experimenting. It ran 12.49 ET @ 106 MPH with my last motor a bone stock 1976 low compression, J headed 455 with a 1969 grind, W31 cam, 232 @50 - 474 lift on 114 lobe centers. I love my Olds powered Chevy and will never go back to the "Dark Side":D.............Spike
