I know it's not too traditional, but the birth of a new rat motor is still special. This is the 496 I am building for my 50 Chev PU. Larry http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j214/CptKaos/IMG_3291.jpg[/IMG [IMG]http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j214/CptKaos/IMG_3291.jpg
That dosen't look like a rat motor to me. Wouldn't a rat motor be a rusty old flathead....Rat dose not = cool.. Nice hi perfomance engine tho
Hmmm......... 500 cubic inches of chevrolet gutless? Better smile when you say that If Cpt.Kaos dont whup ya w/ his cyl. heads, then I will whup ya w/ mine. CptKaos can build a mill. I know. He helped me put mine together.
rat motor for your "Rat Rod"? Nice work, but I was hoping for a flatty or something. Good luck, keep us postes.
Now your talking. I started working on and racing big block Chevys when they first came out. As much as I love SBC's the big block is my favorite. Did you use the supplied thrust washer behind the cam gear of substitute a Torrington roller bearing? I was going to find a substitute Torrington for my 427 then you'd have bearings on both the front and back of the cam gear. Just wondering. Also did you drill a small hole in one of the oil galley plugs behind the cam gear to give a little extra oil for the gear drive?. You don't need much just a few thousands dia will do it and I've found it doesn't effect oil pressure. The big block oil system is based on volume anyway so what little you bleed off doesnt effect the performance of the system but it sure helps the chain and/or gear setup. Frank
this gear drive came with a thrust bearing. shop was closed so shop was empty, never enough lifts. a clean shop is a happy shop and for all you "car kulture" people, a mouse motor is a chev small block and a rat is a big block, better go check your cuffs Larry
rat motor=BB chevy mouse motor=SB chevy How many lifts are in this shop? I counted 3!!! Holy crap! Another immaculate shop!
"Thats a cute mouse motor". Just messing around, in both posts for those who didnt catch it. The only thing that could make that motor cooler would be some wild headers.
Awwwww Now I get it... you know this whole Rat Rod thing kinda ruins every thing..My cuffs are a perfect 4 inches. Kick ass Rat Motor then.
Very nice Larry! Those Mercedes dealership shops sure are clean!! D.W. sure you don't wanna borrow my slicks? Looks like a good race in the making. Oh yeah, BTW, my cars are mouse rods, not rat rods.
a large tire on the front of my buddies 67 Kaiser PU, a tire attached to Rockwell axles with 4 wheel steering and motivated by a large v8 diesel, it is quite a rig Larry
Dang, you Mercedes boys don't mess around. What block is that. I'm fairlynew to the big inch motors. But not so new that I didn't know what a rat motor was! I know they go well into the 5's, and the 496 has been around awhile. But I hope to be shopping for one before long, so I'd like to follow your build. And which Brodix heads are those?
Jeezy creezy, eggs and beezy! You work fast! Watcha doin' this weekend? I've got a fridge full of beer if ya wanna gimme a hand....Should have "el Juapo" rollin' by Sunday!
Uh, Larry, I'm sorry, but I need that frame back Sure looks a lot different than when we moved it from my traier to yours just a couple of weeks ago!! You work fast, have you been home? Have you slept? The way you are going you will probably be driving it to Taylor next week!!!
