I have an angle problem with my '46 Ford rear--The pinion is so high on the rear that the driveshaft angles UP from the trans? There is no way I can raise my engine and trans ( without looking like a Monster Truck) Does the driveshaft have to point DOWN to the rear??

No, an open driveshaft does not have to angle down, but it should have some offset from the axis of the driveshaft.

    Example:

You can search online for "driveshaft angle" for some more explanation. Lots of sites out there.

I have the trans pointing 2 degrees down and the pinion 2 degrees up. But the driveshaft is running 6 degrees up toward the rear pinion.

If your pinion is above the transmission like so many of these Hot Rods are and also running bones or Pete and Jakes ladders the pinion can be pointed straight or slightly down possibly 2 degrees you will be fine.

  5. Also, check in to "driveshaft phasing"
