So awhile back in one of the car rags was a story on Larry Watson anyone remember what issue that was? and where can i find a pick of his crazy 2 headed spray gun some sort of veiling gun by binks i think, that he used to paint some roth cars and dan woods milk truck. FRITZ
I don't know about the two headed spray gun, but some of the veil or spider web effect was done by using paint that was quite thick.
i think there was a article in rod and custom about him .....seems like the druid princess had some of the painting done on it.....might have been in the mid to late 90's.....i think it said it was for furniture or lamps or something.....brandon
An old style veiling gun shoots a stream of paint and atomized by a cone of air around the stream. veiling / spider webbing are pretty much the same thing. Watson say in an old roth book that the heads could "spin" I kinda find hat hard to belive as fluid comes from the very center of a spray gun tip FRITZ
yeah there was a two or three part story in R&C I have one I will try and find it later. One of the books on roth talks alot about him working with watson and some of the techniques he used. Brent
june 1996 rod and custom was the first part it covers the earlier years so it probably is the second part that has the later crazy guns that he was using. I really love his shit it makes me drool. Brent
fritz , actually veiling and cobwebbing are completely different . and on an actual veiling gun the head does rotate ...... VERY hard to find these days ... walt prey used it ALOT ......
The Rod & Custom two-part articles were June 1996 and October 1996. Custom Rodder also did a nice interview with Larry Watson in the Winter 1992 issue. The first veiling guns were used for decorating lampshades originally!
I still just dont get how the head of a paint gun can spin or rotate the fluid out? Anyone have a clue on this FRITZ
OK. So i bought a Binks 2001 veiling gun with 2 sets of special tips yada yada yada, Nothing like what watson did back in the day, cob webs real nice with Lacqure in the gun,...........maybe Im doing something wrong? I dunno, does anyone else FRITZ
Hey Fritz, I'm gonna take a W.A.G. on this one and say that the fluip caps on these guns were modified to rotate, perhaps by air pressure from the supply hose, to interupt the flow of paint, in the air stream of each gun. Much like covering the fluid stream, with your finger (a real good way to loose a finger) on, off, on, off only in a circular manner. This would have the effect of twerling the lacquer as it came out of the gun onto the panel. I use to just rotate the gun, in a figuer eight pattern, using semi- thinned lacquer, one colour at a time. Swankey Devils C.C.
I just ran across this picture on Facebook. Then my curiosity led me here. Trying to find a picture of the 4 headed gun that was used on the Dan Woods Milk Truck. This picture is said to be taken in early 2000s. Sent from my SM-N950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
