I tried to take an underhood pic, but it turned out really dark. =( That car was one of my fav's too. -Troy
Guy in the background is Jack Lufkin, owner of Ak Miller Garage. Was Ak's longtime business partner. Jack's an oldtime B'ville racer and 2-club member. Tom
Hey Tom, you are correct! I knew somebody here would recognize him. He and Isky were cruisin' the pits together when I ran into them. Couple of great guys.... -Troy
Thanks! I stopped buying magazines a long time ago. I'm assuming they are starting to come around again as far as having cool stuff in them.
I see Joe Abbin's '34 there - just heard from him - he ran a 12.41 @ 107.6 Anyone know anything about the cool fuel block on this car:
It's from an old piece of Sun (I think) test equipment. There was a thread about someone repoping them a while back.
I thought Isky Died along time ago,,,I guess it was like when Paul Mcartny died,,, Thats cool that he was around....
Thanks for taking time to post the pics they're great. It was a toss up for me wether to go to bakersfield, or kingdon. I decided to support the local event though, there is always next year for the HRR anyways.
Jon Barrett's Flirtin With Disaster digger was next to this beauty, where I headquarterd my ass most of the weekend. This is "Wild Bill" Alexanders car. Great guy, and he started this thing a bunch of times and cleared out several pits with those weed-burners! Man! My eyes are still burning from that load he put in there! Funny story: After Wild Bill left, he left a nitro drum that seemed like it had about a gallon of nitro, so we poured it into an empty plastic nitro bottle. Luckily we had a screen filter, because what came out was stuff that looked like baby shit! water in oil type of deal. Oh well, jokes on us, ha!
It has a buick hooked to the original overdrive ford trans. It's owned by (banned from the HAMB) Harlan.... You may remember him from his sheetmetal intake fame and disproportionate woody....or not.
Next year is a week later. It will probably be snowing in the passes by then. This year was the biggest attendance by far, and there had to be a billion dollars in class-A RV's. So I guess a week later will knock some of that down...
I hate looking at other peoples pictures and seeing cars I missed... I missed a bunch at billetproof. thought i got pictures of everything i wanted at bakersfield, but now I see a few that I didn't. didn't see isky either.... though i saw Don Garlits standing 5 feet away from Gene Winfield. Tommy Ivo was there. who else?
I got autographs and pics with Garlits, Ivo, Isky, Winfield, George "The Bushmaster" Scheiber and Hayden Proffitt. I saw Dale Pulde and Vallerie Harrell (Dick Harrell's daughter) walking around the pits and after the Cacklefest. I also got quite a few more autographs in my "Diggers, Funnies, Gassers & Altereds" book. A buddy of mine met Linda Vaughn and got her to autograph the shifter on the back of his shirt....That's KooL! I'm sure there were many others. You usually don't know who they are unless someone tells you, or you happen to be a fan.... -Troy
HoB, I sure don't brother... The car was sitting next to the CK Deluxe rag booth, that's all I know. Definitely a KooL ride though. The sidedraft carbs and headers comin' out over them really helped make the motor as interesting as the rest of the car. -Troy
