Built me a louver press.... and it works!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, Oct 2, 2006.

  1. My dad seems to be a magnet for large, outdated and broken machinery, but he usually tells me 3 months after he's seen it. I'll get him on this one.... Like I have time for another project. Ppht!

  2. Thanks !

I know what you mean, I never liked wedge shops whatsoever, especially on a 5w, but slight wedges have been growing on me.

Awesome piece of equipment Kev......now I know who to see if I decide to start "ventilating" my '35 sedan!!! I often thought about building my own press but always thought about using really thick plate but that old Oliver saw looks like it was built with a press in mind. I'll have to drop by some day and check it out up close.

  4. you rule man.. i love homemade tools... especially when they are that baddass.

  5. Awesome! This idea has been added to my list of things to build...

  6. wow way too kool.how much will you charge per louver?

i don't even know what to say, dude.......it has ALL been said....

my hats off to you! i hope to be like you when i grow up!

edit: is that an i beam axle filled on the ends......it looks like an i beam in the middle and tube on the ends

  10. The front axle for the 34 is a 40 Willys that originally had parallel leaf springs. I converted it to Ford style cross spring setup. I like it because it has a more lightweight look than a Ford I beam. It suits the competition look I going for with my coupe.

Kev- your 34 is KILLER thanks for posting pics.

  13. Tuck..... No, your 34 is KILLER!! Mine is just a pile of parts. Haven't even started on a chassis yet but you get an idea of the look I'm going for. I was tempted to go for a quick build but that's what I did with my roadster pickup just so I would have something to drive while I take my time on the coupe project.
Nads....You, lick my boots. Fuck off! I'm honored just to get a response from a H.A.M.B. legend like yourself. Our cars may be sisters but you've got me beat. I don't think mine will see the road for 2-3 years.
Deuceroger....... I didn't build this louver press to make money with. I just wanted one bad for my own projects and building it was the only way I was gonna get one. I will be happy to louver parts for others though , from what I've heard $2.50 each seems about the going rate so that's what I'll charge.

What are the dimensions of the your louvers or a "standard" louver?
