I haven't logged in in many years. Did so last week in anticipation of a new project and have had fun reading all the past entries. You are a fucking machine Ryan. I don't know how you do it.
Dude... Great to see you yesterday and happy to hear about the new project. As for TJJ, it is sort of machine like when you think about cars in one way or another 90% of your waking life. I only do two features a week... that's child's play. I think I could pretty easily do far more without running out of material. The hard part is keeping track of what I have written about and what I haven't. Sometimes a topic I wrote about in 2014, feels like yesterday... and other times, I don't remember it at all. As I get older, my mind is turning into this weird mashup of shit that I don't yet understand fully.
Great looking car, glad to see the body going back on a frame and it returning to the salt. Can someone explain why it didn't run a full windshield?
They sat that beautiful body right on the dirt for the photo! The roll bar was more than many had in the day. Spherical rod ends on the pedals, super clean build.
The chop is savage, A posts leaned way back. The mail slot back window, louvered everything. Phew! I need a cold shower
Amen, I've got that same issue. Used to part time at a radio station and all them songs just pop into my brain unexpectedly. Having a hard time remembering car identifications except for the'34 cuz it's my favorite. Oh well, the joys of getting old, that and joint pains, ugh! Happy Motoring
I'm sure he would approve. I wonder if Mr Breedlove was aware that the car had been found and was on deck for some attention.
I always love old chassis shots that show what was done to get it down the track or salt. Gym weights for ballast on the back of the chassis. Bellcrank system to relocate the shifter handle. Whatever worked.
If I remember correctly , didn't Craig borrow a motor from a buddy, and commenced to blow it up? One of my all time favorite cars ,and pioneers. I am with you on that Mish- Mash.
In 1960, it wouldn't have been that extreme. All it would have took was $1495. How about the ad below that. 1954 Corvette with Oldsmobile engine $1000.
Very cool car and pictures. I believe I met Craig in ~2000 and had a signed poster of his latest racecar. From the car ad, the pictures might have been taken in West L.A. Zoom in and check out what looks like a DIY farm tractor giving Craig's car a run for its money:
Standard for Indianapolis. Driver came into the pits for tires when the inside tread was gone. After the Memorial Day race was over the Inglewood Tire Service off of Florence Avenue just east of Centinela Park would attain used and some new tires left over. .Dry-lake and Bonneville guys were waiting to buy them. I lived on the other side of the Park until I was 19.
Great article Ryan. It’s been a cool journey so far with this car. I recently called Perkins Machine Co and got permission to duplicate their sponsorship logo on the car. When the day for paint comes. I was blessed to get a call from Norm Breedlove last week, Craig’s son. We had a great discussion. Unfortunately, it will not be at Bonneville this year, just to many things in life to give enough attention to the car. And have it there in a drivable condition Here are a few of the latest photos. BREEDLOVE 2.0
Just received the August issue of Hot Rod magazine. On page 10 and 11 is coverage of Breedlove's coupe with photos of the engine and chassis. BTW my old friend Stan Beringhele let Breedlove race his '32 3W when Craig was about 17 in a street race in Culver City. Breedlove wrecked the car and was ejected through the roof. Fortunately for him he wasn't injured, but Stan's coupe was nearly destroyed. Stan's friends told him it was totaled but he put it back together. Stan was a master body man and loved '32 Fords. He rebuilt mine after it was wrecked. RIP Stan Beringhele
Man this is so cool. Nice job 36 Vick! Great piece of racing history you have there. Good luck with the build.
Dope is right...Love the Hotrod...Class indeed...and it's in great hands...Great acquisition @36 Vick... @The37Kid had a good question...Why the split windshield?...It was present in the un-chopped version as well...ventilation maybe?...The chopped version looks to have had an insert in the middle as it seems like it would have acted like a scoop of sorts...if ran open those rear louvers sure must have really got a workout...
