You know when I was running sprint cars I used to paint my blocks with the Chevy orange engine paint. One year I got an engine ready to paint and didn't have any engine paint. I had some gloss black spray paint so I used that thinking it wouldn't last long. I think I used that block at least two seasons and the paint stayed on just fine. Caution; your results may vary.

  2. In my old 54 Chevy I painted the block and heads with Avocado green appliance epoxy since the car was green. Just regular rattlecan stuff from Ace Hardware, held up very well.

You could search out a paint match for the '57 265 color. No one seems to have a code.

  9. Damn man! Showing off your wealth huh? I want those valve covers, but not bad enough for the $350 they're selling em for!

  10. Paid $100 for a 283 power pack that had these on it. Along with an aluminum intake. Complete with bell and trans.
Guy said his uncle bought these covers around 1970.
Was selling off his sbc “junk” cause he’s into LS engines.

    I did good.

  11. They look like the edelbrock classics from the picture! Lucky ass :p:D

  12. Sorry, squinting at my phone I missed your post. The yellow is cool.

My son's '27 Track T ('nose job') has a spirited 327 he painted Ford blue, for all the Tennis Shoe MF's that tell him all about everything.
    1. "Two AFB's?? This thing's over carbureted!"
    2. "How come you don't put a 302 Ford in it?"
    3. Etc., etc.

He runs side panels, no top hood. Exh. manifolds are kinda hidden. Lately gets comments like:
    1. "Hey, neat Ford. How come the dizzy's in the rear?"
    2. "Two AFB's? This thing's over carbureted!"
    3. Again, etc., etc.

3/23/23 The best high temperature enamel engine paint is made by Bill Hirsch. It can be brushed or sprayed. I brushed mine on and it leaves no streaks. Flows smooth and is gasolene resistant. This engine was painted 15 years ago. Plus, touch up is easy. Very durable. You will be happy with the finish. Lots of colors available. That is not Chevy Orange, by the way. Tractor Supply had a whole bunch of whatever color Rustoleum this is for $5.00 a can so I bought it all and re-named it "Not Chevy Orange". upload_2023-3-23_19-5-59.png

My experince says that if you buy three spray cans of Chevy orange from three different sources all will be slightly different in good light.
Still as usual we are getting way off track here and need to answer his question as to how close of an orange that can be brushe on he can find without breaking the bank. I'd vote for Kabota Orange. It's probably easy enough to take a right color Chevy valve cover out on a quest to find a Kabota tractor sitting for a comparison test.

Here's my attempt, used VHT Chevy orange engine paint, so far so good. New crate 350, and 62' valve covers. PXL_20230302_182106153.jpg

  27. What color did GM paint those corporate engines that everybody got starting in the 70s?
I guess a lot of those "never Chevys" are being used today but painted Chevy Orange because "traditional".
