Okay, this is what I got done today. Cut the two top halves to length, set them in place and cut the center line on them. Cut the bottom halves close to length, slipped them under the top and fit the ends and bottom edge. I'll have to add about 1" to the gap between the bottom halves. Then, I can measure and cut for the joint between the top and bottom halves. I wound up with 8 1/2 half inches additional room from front to back measured from the back of the phaeton door pillars. I think there will be more than enough room for this fat boy. 20230102_085906.jpg

I like it, I built the rear section of my body from the doors back with square tubing for inner support all the sheet metal I did from scratch.

What you’re doing shows there’s more than one way to skin a cat.:D

I had sort of planned on doing it your way but, the hood was close to the right shape and only $20.

Doesn't look like I got much done today but, it was mark, cut and fit, cut and fit, cut and fit. Made a run to town for more Clecos. Got to add more panel clamps to the joint and then tomorrow, the right side.

Did you check out the Dodge 1500 hoods for shape?

  12. Nope- was inspired by what you were doing, plus I have an idea for the rest of the body, and want to check the fit of the rear jeep seat in a model A for myself . Might canabalize the seat belts a and e brake stuff too.

    Alan,
What is the measurement now, at the center of the car, from your back panel to the dash rail between the windshield posts?

^^^ From top center of the dash rail to the inside lip of the rear panel is 40 and a half inches.

Dang, 7 inches is a lot more legroom. Some days, even a blind squirrel gets an acorn :D:cool:.

Today was trying to get my old Millermatic 250X to work with .023 welding wire. Works great with .030 or .035 but, with .023, it would burn back into the tip and then bird nest at the rollers. This particular machine has a "Hot Start" feature that isn't compatible with .023, it just pushes right through the material. I had found what was supposed to be a fix for this on the Miller website, but I called their tech support before cutting anything on the circuit board that would be expensive to repair. They took the serial number and part number for the board, then emailed me a schematic marked with the correct diode to cut and the suggestion that I install a toggle switch in series with the diode so that I can switch back to the hot start for larger wire and heavier material. Super nice guys to work with. I'm still working on fine tuning the machine but, I now have most of one side fit and tacked. 29RPU tacking seams with 023 wire.jpg

Been a while since I've had time to get in the shop and my daughter Alyn had the day off, so I took advantage of her good nature. Notice the carefully color coordinated shirt. First thing we got accomplished was stopping all the leaks in the brake lines. Steering column works with an F1 steering wheel and the pedals work where they are. There's so much room in there. Think I'm going to leave it unchanneled. Opinions?
Love the way this thing fits.jpg

Back panel is looking good. I like the "rib" from jeep hood shape.

Masking tape hoods are okay, but if you really want class, use butcher's paper: DSCN1491.JPG of course it's not fireproof. And I don't think it'll hold up to thruway speeds.

In the first chapter of Hezekiah, verse 13, it clearly states and I quote, "God hateth a smartass".;)
