Just thought I'd share my experience. Anyone looking to do a disc brake conversion on a 41-48 ford and wondering about the difficulty of it-its not. I used the speedway kit with Mopar rotors and GM calipers. You have to use a bearing adapter on the spindle, and it does push the wheel out some. To get it on I took my little tabletop Weber gas grill out to the shop, set it on medium and heated each one up for about 15 minutes. Then with a welding glove I slid it on the spindle and held in place for a few seconds until it cooled a bit and contracted in place. Simple! The caliper brackets use the same holes as the original drum brake backing plates used, well 3 out of 4 of them anyway, with included spacers and hardware. Very very easy. This was the easiest thing I've done on this project so far. So if you have been wondering, there ya go. Extremely straightforward and a rewarding upgrade.
Not this one, but they do offer similar kits with it. I wanted the bolt pattern to match the explorer axle I put in the rear so I went with five on four and a half.
https://www.ebay.com/str/classicperformanceproducts I looks a lot like the kit I got for 48 -56 Ford half ton that uses 79 - 93 F150 rotors. another point the spindles fit on a 30S Mopar wavey axle
I used their kit with pre metric impala calipers and 11 3/4” 1974 f truck rotors which keeps the stock bolt pattern. Had much of the same experience. Clears stock wheels as well. I do recall having to trim the caliper brackets a hair but nothing crazy
When this car is all done it will be a Heinz 57 for sure! All kinds of different stuff. Rodder life I suppose?
