Recently picked up a set of heads that I'm going to install on my motor since the original heads got thrashed. Found a set for a decent price and got the valves redone and noticed that they were engraved "by Jaco" on all sides.

Anyone out there knew a guy building Ford engines named Jaco? I'm leaning toward it being some random dude in his garage messing with an engraver, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen em before.

Never seen the name, but have the exhaust ports been smoothed out? Ie the hump taken out? If so maybe he ported them. Just a thought.

Maybe whoever did it was a poser and couldn't spell.

Technically, it doesn't look to be engraved as the markings are raised (weld bead?).

    Yeah...it is !
NO...poser there. That took some skill to dig into the material, and not have the cutter roll out of the groove, and have it look like crap.
Just a different..."Jaco", but with very good grinding skills.

Defiantly looks like "engraving", done by hand with a hand grinder and a "ball" cutter or a standard long cutter with a full radiused end.

I've put numbers in some of the heads that I've ported over the years. My last name's it too long to spend THAT much time doing that kind of work.

They have. The heads were put together when I got them. They had nicer springs and valves than the ones I had so I kept em in. They'd been done a while ago and were sitting on a shelf in someone's garage for a few years before I got a hold of them. All I did was resurface them, replace the seals, and lap them.

It is hard to do and especially when you keep in mind you can't erase it and try it again if you screw up.
This is the gas cap on my dune buggy I engraved with a dremel.

Nice work! That's pretty rad. My old man did tool and die and was pretty damn good with one, wasn't a skill he passed on to me.
